If it is the same one that has been hanging around for a couple of years it is a sharp shinned, altho they can look a lot like a Harris. Their diet is mostly other birds, hence the cacophany this morning :). I can usually tell when she is in the area by the defining silence around the feeder. Our local population of grackles and turtle doves has greatly diminished. Fortunately the cardinal seems to be fast enough to avoid being dinner.

Heh. That happens to barn cats around here - was walking in from the barn one afternoon, said something to a pair of kittens dinking around by the claim house - saw a swooping shadow in my peripheral vision, heard a squeak, turned around - one kitten gone and absolutely nothing in sight....

We worry a lot about the inlaws' little teeny poodle!!!

I think it is a sharp shin hawk and they only eat other birds so the neighbhor's small yippy dog is safe.......darn.
