10% cut or nothing..

All the Volt employs working at Microsoft got a nice email yesterday. It seems we are all being forced to take a 10% pay cut or lose our jobs. Since Volt hasn't been very good about raising pay rates the last 4 years (I've been with the same group going on 4 contracts now) I'll be cut back to about what I was making 3 years ago. At least I still ( Read more... )

What the fuck?

Seriously, could Microsoft be any more ridiculous? Shouldn't they start with, oh, maybe the Board of Directors first?

I'm sorry, Greg.

Hey! Good to hear from you.

Yep, it's pretty messed up the way they are doing this. We have to accept by the 3rd of March and we'll start getting pay reduction by the 16th of March. If I'd had a nice chunk of money saved I'd have told them to fuck off but I really can't do that right now so I'm at the mercy of these bastards.

I feel your pain. I got laid off (one of the 1400 FTE's...)

And the grand hypocrisy of the whole thing... they want me as a contractor...

But now there's pay cuts... damn.

I think if they had suggested pay cuts, I would have bitten the bullet as an FTE, but they didn't. Instead they find ways to screw their FTE's AND their CSG's both.

None of this bullshit makes sense. I agree. Remove the cancer from the board of directors so that the whole may survive... something tells me it's not happening tho.

Heh... I think you got the better end of the deal... you're still working. :-)

Damn bud, I didn't know you got laid off.

That's really messed up, that they laid you off and that they want you back as a contractor.

Are they trying to get you back as a contractor doing the same job you were before they laid you off?

I know some of the industry is in pain, but I also think there is a lot of shady stuff going on with the companies taking advantage of crying "bad economy" to make workers spend more hours at work and take less pay because "hey, at least I have a job."

*HUGS* Hang in there.
