Note: For some reason I decided to take a hiatus from writing during exams - but the only way I can focus on exams is by churning out these ridiculous and pointless stories. i.e. I cannot for the life of me try to focus on Into the Face of the Beguiled because I start reading about syphilis and start freaking out about Anthropology - but these things keep coming out. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. But enjoy!

Chapter One
Chapter Two

Yong Soo did not come to Spanish or History, though Yao knew he was at school - in the hallways the Korean boy used his height and quick, long legs to propel himself in the opposite direction. Yao didn't blame him, and kept his distance.

Eventually Yong Soo came back to class, though he sat in the back and didn't answer any questions.

At the end of History class, Yao stood as his students began packing up and talked over the babble, "Your papers are due next week!" he reminded them. "Im, please see me."

Yong Soo froze. His jaw tensed, and his hands stilled on his school bag. Yao waited, heart thrumming in his chest, covering his nervousness with an even expression.

Yong Soo scratched the back of his head and kept his gaze on the ground. "Yes, Teacher?" he asked.

Yao handed a stack of papers to the boy. "These are forms for a number of different scholarships." he said. "You said that you needed money, and your grades are above average, aru. I expect you to get at least a few of these."

Yong Soo stared at the papers. "...Are you trying to get rid of me?" he asked evenly. Yao took a deep breath.

"No." he replied, "I'm not trying to get rid of you. You - you scared me, when you said that you wanted to stay here, for me. That shouldn't be your priority right now. I blame myself for allowing this relationship to happen."

"Oh." Yong Soo looked confused - like he wasn't sure if he should be disappointed or hopeful.

"You should go away next year, and focus on your education." Yao continued firmly, leaning against his desk. Then he paused. "B-but you should never forget where you come from, aru. So if you wanted to come back in the summer after your first year of college, maybe we could..."

He left the statement open ended, and Yong Soo raised his head.

"Maybe we could?" he prodded, looking a little less sad. Yao flushed.

"...Well don't make me say it, aru." he grumbled. Yong Soo suddenly pressed up to him, trapping him against his desk.

"Please say it?" he asked. "I'd feel better."

He tried the puppy dog pout. Yao ground his teeth and looked quickly towards the door.

"Once you go to college and if you come back to visit," he recapped quickly under his breath. "...maybe we could try this again. For real."

The look on Yong Soo's face is indescribable. Yao has never seen the boy look like this before, all wide eyed and mesmerized and for once at a loss for words.

"I - " Yong Soo grasped for words. Finding none, he slammed his hands down on the desk, making Yao jump.

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Yong Soo demanded. Yao blanched, mistaking the boy's words.

"Well, I mean, we don't have to," he said quickly. "By that time you could have found someone else, someone at college, and I wouldn't want you to feel any obligation if that happens. It's just, if you wanted to try again..."

"Are you crazy?!" Yong Soo was looking at him as if he'd grown another head. "Of course I do! I promise, I'll get all the scholarships and I'll go away for college and work really hard..."

Yao caught Yong Soo's eager hands and held them tight for a moment. "I don't want you to do it for me." he said firmly. "I want you to do it for you. Getting away for an education is one of the most rewarding things you can do, aru. I wish - "

Yong Soo was beaming so wide that Yao could feel his teeth when he kissed the older man, briefly.

"You're the best, Teacher." Yong Soo declared, and Yao felt heat rise to his face.

"W-well, now it's up to you, aru." he said fiercely. "So don't mess up, or I'll be disappointed!"

Yong Soo laughed. "Yes, Teacher!" he replied, and gripped the scholarship forms so tight Yao feared they would rip. "I'll make you proud of me, don't worry!"

"Did you listen to a word I said?!" Yao muttered under his breath in disbelief, as Yong Soo strode quickly to the door. The boy turned with a bright smile on his face.

"I know, I know. But I want this to work." Yong Soo declared enthusiastically, "So I'll go away, and then I'll come back to see you and we'll go on another date but we'll see a movie that was made in Korea so that it'll actually be good and - "

"All right, Yong Soo." Yao said firmly. "Don't get ahead of yourself." he motioned to the papers in Yong Soo's hands. "You should fill those forms out as soon as possible, so you can send them by the end of the week, aru."

As Yong Soo began walking out the door, Yao called, "And Im, don't forget about your paper. And try to make it plausible - trying to explain Korean involvement in things they weren't involved in is not plausible, aru!" he added as Yong Soo opened his mouth.

"Honestly," he murmured once the student had left, fiddling with his pen, trying to hide his red face. "I don't know what that boy's going to do when he gets to college."

After a moment, he had to stop a feeling of loss from welling up in his throat. So he smiled at the chalkboard instead.

A couple of weeks later...

--

"Wang-san."

Yao looked up from his work to smile gently at the student in front of his desk. Kiku Honda had recently transferred into the school in the middle of the semester - his family came originally from Kyoto and were staying here for business. Kiku was a solemn, quiet, intelligent and hardworking boy and had picked up the curriculum very fast.

Kiku held out his test, completed in perfect handwriting. "I'm done, sir." he said.

Yao was surprised, and quickly surveyed the rest of the class. Everyone was still hard at work on their history tests, pens moving quickly across the paper. He could see Yong Soo's long legs stretched out into the aisle, crossed at the ankle as the boy crouched over his work. Yong Soo's marks had improved drastically after everything had been said and done, and Yao was proud of the boy. If this kept up, he'd be going to a good college with a lot of scholarships.

"Thank you, Honda." Yao said, taking the paper from the boy. "Since you're done early, feel free to read a book or something. Once everyone else is done I'll have an assignment to give out."

"Thank you, sir." Kiku said seriously (so seriously, he acted like a middle aged man more than a teenager!) and returned to his seat. Yao looked up just in time to catch Yong Soo's dark stare, before the boy looked down again at his paper.

Yong Soo looked extremely proud of himself when he was the second to hand in his test, and lingered a few seconds at Yao's desk as if expecting praise. Yao merely gave him a stern look - they had both specifically agreed to act normally around each other. If anyone found about the affair, even if it was done, Yao could lose his job, or worse. Yong Soo returned to his desk and scribbled furiously on a piece of loose leaf. Kiku read a novel about America civil war soldiers.

After everyone else was done with the test, Yao talked a bit about the assignment he was giving them, to be done at home and handed in after the weekend. Kiku raised his hand from time to time to specify instructions that were unclear to him in a crisp, polite voice. Yong Soo looked annoyed every time the Japanese boy spoke, and folded the loose leaf until it was a tiny square.

After class, Yao did not even notice when Yong Soo loitered after class, until he turned from the blackboard to see the Korean boy standing in front of his desk, unusually solemn.

"Was there something you wanted, Im?" Yao asked curiously. Yong Soo arched his eyebrows.

"I don't like that Honda kid." he declared. Yao blinked.

"What are you talking about, aru?"

"He keeps talking to you." Yong Soo continued, like a student talking to his teacher was suddenly a big deal. "You're really friendly with him. I think he likes you."

Yao didn't know quite what to say. "Are you...Yong Soo, please tell me you are not jealous" he dead panned. Yong Soo put his hands on Yao's desk, looking focused and serious and very...adorable.

"If I have to wait for you, you have to wait for me!" he said vehemently. "So you can't look at other guys, okay? Or I'll be upset! Patience was invented in Korea but in this case I'll let you use it until I get back from first year! And if Kiku looks at you like that again..." he trailed off, but the whole outburst had been so unbearably cute that Yao had momentarily gone cross eyed.

"That's..." Yao wasn't sure how to continue. "...Yong Soo, you're being ridiculous and it's adorable, aru."

Yong Soo blinked. "I am?" he asked.

"This is a tentative thing," Yao told him, "But I promise you, Honda does not hold my interest at all. Do you think I'm some pervert who goes after students?" At Yong Soo's incredulous look, Yao sighed. "I had never even...entertained the thought of being with a student, or finding a student attractive, before you." he admitted. "Just know that I'm not going to jump from one person to the next. I'm not like that, aru."

"Oh." Yong Soo looked taken aback. "So...you'll just be mine, right?"

Yao rolled his eyes. "I think you missed my point, as usual, but if you're worried about Honda the answer is no, I'm not attracted to him. Or anyone else, for that matter. At least not now, aru."

Yong Soo's eyes brightened. "Okay!" he chirped. "Good! That makes me happy, Teacher!" he waved the assignment sheet around in the air with zeal. "This'll be on your desk first thing Monday, da ze~! Even before Honda's!"

Yao couldn't stop a smile from spreading across his face. "I'll hold you to that, Im."

On Monday, Yong Soo only beat Kiku by sliding between his legs into the classroom, half clambering onto Yao's desk, and slamming his finished work down on the desk with triumph. Yao just couldn't help laughing at Kiku's politely bewildered gaze.
