Poor Eek is sick(er).

Eek hasn't been eating, so I took him to the vet today. He fainted while the vet was doing his physical exam and ended up getting oxygen for a while. The vet then said I should probably take him out to the veterinary ER, so I did. A variety of tests have now been done, and he's staying overnight so that some more can happen in the morning. Oh you're having the worst of all winters! I can't help at all, but I am thinking of you and Eek. *hugs*

What is the lung capacity of an unladen kitten? 100cc sounds pretty close to it -- I'm thinking a standard TSA-permitted bottle, and that's large compared to a cat torso.

(Harumph. Of *course* someone has measured it, but then hid the answer behind a paywall.)

Ack! Poor Eek.

Does "fluid in lungs" equal pneumonia?

No, not in this case. I guess it's possible- they haven't done the lab work on the aspirate yet, but no one is mentioning pneumonia. (I didn't expect it to be fluid because it was in the *top* of the lungs, but I wasn't taking account of the fact that Eek goes around on all fours!)

The source of the fluid is the next worry. It may be a cardiac issue- Eek has high blood pressure and that can cause fluid in the pleural cavity. It may also be a tumor in the abdomen somewhere. More news tomorrow.
