Tax time

Yeah, I know; the rest of you did it back in January.

I'd just like to note that I hate hate hate working out capital gains. Plus, I've lost 2005. How did I lose 2005? Hopefully the world will look rosier by tomorrow night.

You do your taxes manually? We've found that the financial cost of the software is more than made up for by the reduced cost in stress and time.

Oh, and no -- did it last week or so. We always owe (by design), so it doesn't get sent in until April 15 anyway.

Yeah, I use TurboTax. I still have to manually find the cost basis for things, though, and that's the part that kills me. I haven't found a way to do that which doesn't involve digging through old papers.

Oh yeah, that part is a pain no matter what you use. We make a pile as the tax-relevant documents start coming in and process it when we think they're done; that's a little messy but reduces the search space. I don't now remember where the cost-basis information comes from; possibly the answer to that is "reports from our broker".

Oh crap.

At this point I guess I'm filing a 4868...
