[Sasori had been repairing his puppets when he saw his wife's dream. He returns to the bedroom and greets her with a slight smile.]

You never fail to impress me, my dear. You did well, back then.

[His brow furrows.]

I won't say good morning, however, as it's a little early for you to be getting up. You really should rest a bit more.

[Sakura blushes at his frank praise. She knows she did well but it's always nice to hear it.

Early? Of course it's not early. She's up, isn't she? And she's always been a morning person.]

It's okay, I'm already up.

[Okay, so she's yawning, a little.]

[Well, isn't she just the cutest thing in the mornings, especially when she blushes like that.]

I beg to differ. You're still tired, that's rather clear.

[Sasori smirks and approaches the bed.]

I suppose I'll just have to find some way to convince you to stay in bed.

[What the heck does that mean? She shoots Sasori a wary look and starts to get out of bed.]

I'm really not tired!

[Avoiding him with that look on his face? Noo~o, not at all.]

[He watches.

He watches and he doesn’t know what to make of it. It’s the other side. The side that is not on the battle field but after it. The side he rarely if ever sees and the side that Sakura deals with and has dealt with for years. And she had to start somewhere (like in this dream) but it doesn’t feel like that. It seems to him that she has always been this skilled because though her hands tremble, they don’t remain shaky.

They stop.

She stops them.

And though Naruto watches the entire episode while wearing a small grimace (sympathy, for the patient she saves) he is awed.

He can kill, well enough, he can hurt, but he cannot save. Not like this.

He knows, he doesn’t have that control, he knows, he will never have the intelligence to learn what she has learned.

No. Naruto will never be able to save lives like Sakura can.]

[A quiet cough, but after it comes sincere sentiment.]

Hey, Sakura-chan.

Dunno if I’ve told you lately but.

You’re pretty damn amazing.

Naruto...

[Sakura is supremely touched. She doesn't even know what to say to that, except:]

Thank you.

[And then, just because it's okay to throw him a bone once in a while:]

You're not so bad, either.

[Just a little bit teasing, but the sentiment behind her words--she means every inch of it.]

I’m not?

[So not expecting that but here’s for a quick recovery.]

Pfft! Of course I’m not! I’ve been telling people that for years! I’m still gonna be the best ninja this village has ever seen!

[60% bluster, 40% actual belief, these days. But priorities change.]

[Softer then.]

… hey. I meant it though. You’re gonna give Tsunade obaa-chan a run for her money.

Ha, ANBU. Fuck 'em and their masks--every time you put those things on, they change your personality. I wouldn't be surprised if they had genjutsu woven into them or something. [His tone is roughly humorous, perhaps insulting, but still fond--after all, he had worn an ANBU mask himself once. He still owned it, as a matter of fact. He still had the tattoo, too.]

If you're good enough to work with people like that when you're young, then you're probably good enough to show them right the hell up, even if it does take a few years--and I'd say you meet both criteria, kiddo.

[Lazy, teasing smirk; what little he knows of Sakura, he's liked fairly well, even if he's also liked giving her a bit of a hard time.] You'll knock 'em dead when you're all grown up, I bet.

[Jeez, guys. She's going to stay that way if you keep this up. Meaning: yeah, she's blushing. Again.]

Thank you. It's nothing, really! Just doing my job.

[Eventually, the color leaves her cheeks, and she's no longer as flustered as before.]

I didn't know you were ANBU.

[He just chuckles, sitting up a bit and pushing the blankets back before lifting and turning his Hitomi; he's obviously at least shirtless, and it's easy for the screen to show the navy ANBU tattoo on his left shoulder, as well as the myriad scars any older shinobi collects.]

If just doing your job was nothing, kiddo, then the only mark I'd have on me would be that tattoo. But I was ANBU before I left Kirigakure, yeah--mine was a dragon. Kind of a shame they don't train more medics in their ranks; it'd do us all a lot of good.

[Her eyes are wide--they always seem to be after a dream, where she can see more than she's ever seen before. The blood frightens her, and the smell of soap hurts her nose, and the fear Sakura felt hasn't quite washed away, but she is curious.]

You're a doctor?

[She didn't know girls could be doctors.]

[Oh, goodness. There was an awful lot of blood in that dream: being a medic isn't pretty. Sakura feels bad. She hopes that Chitose wasn't too scared by it.]

Yes, I am. Well, sort of.

[She's starting to calm down as reality reasserts itself; the blood wasn't real for her--but she can't help but wonder if it had been real for Sakura-nee-san.]

I didn't know you could be a doctor. [If you're a girl.]

[But Sakura misses Chitose's meaning: she thinks she's talking about a ninja becoming a doctor.]

Well, as a ninja, I use my natural energy, which is called chakra, for all kinds of things. Healing people is one of them. It's very specialized training but some people can do it.
