Alona's Panel

I've included links to vids or other photo posts (wolfpup2000 for example) at the bottom of this post for my own reference. If you haven't already checked out wolfpup2000's photos (and I'm betting you have!), see the link under these photos for some fantastic close ups.

I've also put some comments in with the photos. These are from my recollection augmented by some videos I've seen. I'm not going to promise to do this for all the posts. I may run out of patience. But I like the idea of being able to refer back to this later.

This was the first time I'd seen Alona. She was cute and bubbly and I enjoyed seeing her. At one point in the panel when she laughed, Alona said that she giggled like a little girl. She was very cute. I think she said she woke up very early that day just to be there and was very excited and it was always fun for her.

Alona came out and did a tiny bit of a strip tease--taking off her jacket and then struck some poses (1a-1f)

I'm just going to randomly insert my impressions/recollections of her panels throughout this post. My comments do not necessarily reflect on any particular photo.

At one point she was asked how she got into acting. She said her mother was a "second AD" (I think) who had decided she didn't want to be lawyer. Her mother was doing a movie and ask Alona if she wanted to have a small part in the movie--which she did. She said up until then she wanted to be a housekeeper. (!) The audience laughed and she said she was serious!

She was also asked what it was like as an actor to move around between characters. She replied that it was a challenge that an actor looked forward to. And she went on to talk about actors being multi-faceted and how they like to try different roles. And that she finds different roles fun and hopes she can do them believable.

Alona was asked about the scene between her and Jared in BUaBS where Sam attacks Jo. She was asked how she prepared for difficult scenes like that. Alona replied that she enjoyed doing scenes like that because they are disturbing and as an actress she likes to do scenes that are disturbing and real. She thought it was one of the best scenes she had as Jo.

She also talked about the size difference between her and Jared--she's 5'5" to his 6'4". And that when he first went to spin her around, she literally went *completely* around 360 degrees--and she ended up laughing for about 20 minutes because of it. She said Jared could barely touch her and she'd fly across the room.

Alona was asked what she thought Jo would be doing now in the SPN universe since we didn't get much closure about her character. Alona thought she would be doing her own thing; hunting and participating in some way in the war since she came from a line of hunters. She hoped Jo would have hooked up with some other hunters. Alona said Jo was very young and not very experienced when she first appeared and that she likelly would have grown up into a wonderful human being and good hunter.

One fan thanked Alona for introducing her to Supernatural. She started watching SPN because she was a fan of Alona's on Veronica Mars. Alona went on to talk about how sometimes when you go on a show you don't know how long it's going to be for. Sometimes it's a one time thing that turns into a recurring role. Sometimes it's a recurring role that ends up just be a few appearances. Evidently her role on Veronica Mars was only supposed to be a one-time thing. And we all know what happened with the role of Jo on SPN.

Alona was asked how it felt to hold a gun on Dean. Her reply was that he so deserved it. She went on to say it was a real rifle and that Jensen broke the rifle during that scene when he knocked it out of her hands instead of grabbing it. They had to stop the shoot to glue it together. It was her first day on set and she said she felt awkward about it and that caused her to do that punch thing we see on the gag reel. She said she wanted to give him S.H.I.T (she spelled it) for it--but it was her first day and she felt awkward---but she really wanted to because he was "such a klutz."

A guy came up and asked if Jo could return and sucker punch Ruby. I'm pretty sure photo 13a is her expression at this question and the reaction from the audience--which was loud cheers. I think she replied, "By all means." And that she could take her. Then it got into a bit of a discussion about Ruby 1.0 vs. Ruby 2.0 (only vaguely.) Photo 13b is her reaction to the Ruby 1.0 vs. Ruby 2.0 comments from the guy who asked the question.

13b) Ruby 1.0 vs. Ruby 2.0 - It sounded like she didn't want to get into that discussion at all--like she new better than to touch that one. She did at one point say that she thought Ruby 2.0 was pretty buff and may do yoga--but that Jo could still "take her."

Towards the end of the panel Alona got into a discussion about women being comfortable about their own self-image. About how even she sometimes feels fat and ugly and it's all about recognizing that everyone's different and that people/woman are meant to be different. She then went into something about how she is interested in nutrition and how today's foods are contributing to health issues. As well as how the media impacts everyone's views of themselves--even those people who are in the media themselves.

My autograph from Alona. I did a piece of fanart for each of the guests for this con. I think I'm going to post all of the together in one post and also include the individual's autographs on the page devoted to them (because I'm an obsessive geek that way!) These images are from my camera - so they are not totally clear. My scanner is in storage right now and not hooked up.

When she signed this, Alona said she liked the picture of Jo I'd picked for the larger image. She thought Jo's hair was more appropriate in BUaBS. I said it wasn't so curly and girly. She agreed and said it had been her own decision to cut her hair prior to that episode so it wasn't so long.
