LA Con 2009 - Dessert Party Photos

SPN LA Con 2009
Dessert Party

For some reason my Dessert Party photos never really turn out.  Maybe because it's late at night.   I can't recall now if I bring my good camera or just my little portable.  Likely the portable--hence the sucky photos.

There's a bit of a story around this Dessert Party.  Let's see if I can recall it.

The party started late because the Jason/Steve concert was delayed by, oh, maybe as much as an hour?  They were having technical sound problems.  So the 11-11:30ish Dessert Party started even later.

Misha had been delayed due to filming and we weren't sure he was going to make it at all.  But he showed up at the tail end of the Steve/Jason concert.  I got an excited txt message from fickleone (who was seated on the opposite side of the room from me) that Misha had just been spotted off to the side of the stage area.

We were excited to get into the Dessert Party room because it was the same room and set up that would be used for the J2 Breakfast and while we had a table number, we had no idea where the table would be.  We were thrilled to find out that our tables were 2nd row center!  They were just about the perfect location!  So cool.  And we wouldn't have to get up at like 4 am in the morning to queue up to find a table seat.  Such a relief!  Especially since the Dessert Party was likey to go to at least 1:30-2 am since it was starting late.  (Ugh.)

So the regular Dessert Party process was followed.  All the guests were introduced and went to the "stage area".  Misha was announced last and everyone cheered to see him show up.

The room was much larger with more attendees than the past cons.  Twice as large I'd say.  So even with only about 3 minutes per guest visit, there were so many tables I knew it was going to be 1-1/2 to 2 hours before we got out of there.

Misha's visit to our table was memorable.  He was so cool!  He was at the table next to us and was supposed to go down a different row according to his "handler's" plan.  But our table schemed to get him to us next.  Fickleone and the lady next to her moved apart to make an opening for him--it was right next to where he was seated at the table next to us.

As soon as Misha stood up, we called out "Misha! Sit here!"  And he did!  Much to his handler's mild disgruntlement!  Ha!

So Fickleone got to sit right next to Misha during his visit to our table.  And I was right next to her.  So cool.  I was so excited to be seated so near him that I don't even remember the question our table asked him or his answer!  Oh well.

Sam Smith (Mary), stopped by later and told her ghost story (see the Sam panel report for details).  Then Steve and one of his band-mates.  Jason stopped by somewhere in there as well.  I couldn't even hear Jason because it was so noisey.  And I don't really remember what Steve talked about because his band-mate (who was very nice btw) sat near me and he was who I listened to.  Steve seemed engrossed in a conversation with someone he knew at our table.

Malik stopped by as well.  He was fun to talk with.  And gorgeous (of course.)

Then the "excitement" started.

The main convention supervisor (can't recall her name) started running between the two doors to the room.  And the other convention volunteers were closing off the doors and going between the doors and talking to each other excitedly.  We were waiting for Richard to come to our table, but he was WAY off on the other side of the room and we knew it would be some time before he got to us.  So we were engrossed by what seemed to be happening with the convention workers.

We started to see the convention workers turn away people who wanted to leave the room either to go to the bathroom or to just leave.  They were not letting anyone leave!  By now it was almost 1 am.

We finally called over the convention supervisor and asked her what was going on.  Turns out some group of drunk guys were being rowdy and breaking things.  Creation wasn't letting any of us leave out of concern that these guys were still roaming the hallways.  There'd evidently been reports of them causing problems throughout the hotel.

I was getting tired and Richard was still on the other side of the room.  And I knew we had to be up early the next morning.  So when Creation finally said they'd escort groups of people back to their rooms, fickleone and I decided to go with the first batch of folks.

Now this was bizarre.  They took us out the room and into one of the hotel worker hallways.  We ended up going through kitchens, back hallways, utility areas (who knew the hotel was this big?).  We climbed up back stairwells.  It was kinda hilarious.  Finally we queued up by this service elevator that could only take like 5 people at a time and there were like 30-40 of us!  Fickleone and I had our room on the main floor which was only one floor up, so we snuck into another stairwell (un-escorted--weren't we daring! ha!)  And found our way back to our room.  It was likely past 2 am by this time.  We were exhausted and went right to bed.
