I loved the book, I really did and so was especially nervous of the film. The reviews weren't kind, professional and personal, so I went in with some trepidation.
Good
*The Millenium bridge collapsing, giving the Muggles just a hint of what's to come.
*Spinner's End. I was so worried that this would be fudged or missed out completely but it was almost exactly how I imagined it (with the exception of NM, see below).
*Slughorn - Again, his introduction to the film and in fact all his scenes were spot on from how I imagined them in the book.
*WWW/ Borgin and Burkes - Awesome and exciting and the perfect contrast to one another.
*Tom Riddle - Child and teen, both suitably creepy enough. How the greatest wizard of all time couldn't tell that he was evil I will never know!
*'Sectumsempra' - I remember when reading the book that I thought the scene was a bit much for a childrens book, but it was excellently played and had me holding my breath.
*The Burrow on fire - Now I know a lot of people have a problem with the whole Burrow/corn field scene as it was never in the book but personally, I loved it, including Tonks who I hated in the last film.
*The cave - Dumbledore's lasso of fire looked like it was taken right off of the front cover of book 6.
*Fenrir Greyback - Freaked me out as well he should have. I can't wait to see him again in 7.
*The last scene - The view of Hogwarts and it's grounds and possibly the last time we see it looking so peaceful.
*The character development/acting.
Evanna Lynch is still an absolute joy to watch and proves once again that talent doesn't have to come from stage school and can be found at an open audition. I can't wait to see her in DH playing opposite Rhys Ifans.
Tom Felton almost had me in tears a couple of times as he portrayed Draco's internal struggle.
Alan Rickman outdid himself in every scene, as Snape finally showed a hint of emotion. However, if I were him, I would be furious that in what is essentially his film, he gets so few scenes.
The Undecided
*Jessie Cave as Lavender Brown - Now I'll be the first to admit that I was always going to struggle with this character being brought to the screen after playing her in RP from a month after HBP came out, four years ago. I liked Jessie Cave when she was first announced and thought they could do something excellent with her, and they did. She, as Lavender, certainly had the desired affect of being the catalyst for Hermione and Ron's angst, and she was a joy to watch, providing many of the films laughs and one of my favourite scenes (drawing the heart on the train window). But the RP'er inside me, can't forgive them for making her just that, and giving her no depth at all. *Sniff* My Lavender is still better.
Bad
*Narcissa Malfoy - No, no, no. She didn't look a thing like her and that distracted me so much that I felt I watching someone else and not Narcissa.
*Teenage romantic angst - Now, I do remember this from the books, but I don't remember it being so cringeworthy. Of course, it could just be that I'm too old to enjoy teen angst!
*Wands in the air - I'm sorry but that seemed completely innapropriate, almost like holding up a lighter when a slow song is played at a concert, not what you do 5 minutes after someone dies.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I'm sure there was much, much more that I've forgotten, as my short term memory is worsening by the day! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it, I think it will be my favourite once I've seen it a few more times. Now all we have to do is wait 18 months for DH pt 1!
