That key copying thing is indeed shaping up to be quite the saga, but that will have to wait for some administrative updates first. This is the price we pay for smaller posts -- more frequent posts. the US Postal Service actually delivered it. What kind of racket is this?

I don't know, but UPS does it, too. I've had it happen once so far. You can look it up, I think it's a relatively new phenomenon. And it's just freaking lazy. It seems that if there's a post office location close to where you are, UPS/FedEx just pops in and basically says, "Hey, these packages are in your range, can you drop them off for us? THANKS, BYE!"

I remember DHL doing it a couple of years back, but just thought they were singularly lazy. All I know is if the Post Office keeps picking up the private sector's slack out of the goodness of their hearts, no wonder the poor schmucks are going out of business.

It's not out of the goodness of their hearts. UPS and FedEx are two of the USPS's biggest customers. It's an economy service that has a special name. It saves UPS and FedEx money because they get the packages to the area, but don't have to send out trucks. The USPS benefits because their trucks are going their anyway so taking UPS and FedEx packages the last mile makes the money without the cost of gas for freight.
