It's true, I still lurk around here! I try to comment on people's entries when appropriate, but I've never been a big poster. I hope you all are well, those who don't post frequently.
Anyway, I have been trying to sew more diligently, and really learn something along the way. I am getting MUCH better, but sometimes working on big projects just gets to be too much, you know? It's nice to have something done in a couple of hours, versus the 9 bound buttonholes I have to make for the "big project" I'm working on now. Actually, it's not really the techniques, but the fitting that sends me into sewing funk (even my "sloper" is having crazy fit issues. I have solved most of them, but the bust darts come out all weird EVERY. DAMN. TIME. Anyone have any tips for a how to deal with a very large bust dart?). I am currently cutting
McCall's 6788, a pattern the lovely and talented
tcarole sent to me ages ago. But, to distract myself from that and my sloper, here are other things I've finished that did not require fiddly bust measurements:
Gift bags:
(Okay, not clothes, but super easy and fun for holidays and to use up scraps)
Easter:
Christmas (for next year, look at me planning ahead!):
I will wear this shirt (made of mystery fabric, but some kind of poly or rayon that is super drapey) ALL SUMMER LONG. I want to make it in a million colors. Do not judge the pattern by its cover, folks, because doesn't it look like these ladies stepped off the set of Dynasty?
(all other photos are clickable, but this HAD to be big. Like those shoulder pads.)
When it's all sewn up withOUT shoulder pads, View B looks something like this:
Front is cut on the bias:
Back:
Then, lovely readers, over the weekend I made some pajamas. These are the Colette Patterns
Madeleine and
Sorbetto (without front pleat). Each of these was finished in an evening and I am having some trouble separating myself from the bottoms.
Bottom front:
Bottom back:
Top (and bottoms) front:
and back:
This is made up in a light and airy cotton lawn or voile, perfect for summer.
I looked for more lawn/voile in different colors at the local fabric shops, and neither had anything. I guess I know what I am getting on my next trip to Britex in SF. In the meantime, I am making up the Colette pair in some paisley purple poly charmuse for my upcoming east coast trip.
So, there's my totally fun and easy sewing that doesn't make me want to cry. Maybe someday I'll be able to post something more fitted and polished than PJs.
OH, also, if you are in the Boston area from 22-24 May or Baltimore on 28 or 29 May, I'd love to get together. If you have a trivia team, I'd love to play. I am just coming off a "Championship Night" at our local trivia haunt, where my team took first place (and $750!).
If you made it to the end, you deserve a cookie.
