I feel for you. My son is failing kindergarten for reasons that sound very similar. He's very bright - we know this, but he is completely unmotivated in school. He refuses to participate in anything at school, even playtime; he just makes up stories and games in his head until its time to go home. I volunteer in his class every Wednesday, which seems to be helping a bit, but I don't know what eles we'we should be doing (and his teachers keep asking me what they should do - I thought they were the experts, whay are they asking me?).
Anyway - good luck with your boy, and I'd be very interested to hear of anything you find that helps.
You know, I plan on homeschooling if the munchkins ever make it here. So if you do decide to go that route I have lots of resources I can throw at you.
I would offer ideas for advocacy, but being in the classroom made me far too cynical. The cursing would get in the way.
