I used to work graveyard shifts, at Telus, like 6 years ago. The hardest part for me was getting to sleep once I was home. I was pretty wound up, and usually couldn't sleep until 11 or noon.
Yay, no snakes! (I'm not phobic, I just... don't like them.)
Those sound like the hours I'm keeping, except I don't have the excuse of a job :/
One thing I was told when I was in therapy was that the best way to get a handle on insomnia was not to force yourself to go to sleep at a certain time, but to *wake up* at a certain time, and stay up. You keep doing this (and avoid napping!) and you should fall into the sleep schedule you want.

I have a friend who worked nights for over a decade. He just went back to days about a year ago. I'll ask him if he can give you some tips.
