MOAR bird pics

This fellow has been visiting our bird feeder and birdbath, even though he's a bit too large for it (especially the feeder).

For a while we guessed that he was a purple martin or a brewer's blackbird, but after comparing the photos to ones online, it's pretty clear he's a grackle.

Yup, those'd be grackles all right. We have scads of them that live around our yard. They can be very silly some days. I believe they are related to crows/ravens and are very trickstery too.

Nice clear shots by the way! Its awesome that you caught some of the crazy colours on their heads.

Thanks! I still regularly hear the woodpecker in our neighbourhood that I desperately want to get pictures of.

Ah, woodpeckers are sneaky. You -know- they're there but they can be so hard to see or get to sit still. Though I guess I have actually had a few close encounters with them... no photos though.

You'll just have to stand very still and make noises like a tree! :3
