with families there comes a fork in the road where you have to kind of build a new relationship. it doesn't always happen for people at the same time. sometimes there's a catalyst like moving out of home or getting married, sometimes it's just time.
it's kinda weird but you need to start almost from scratch and get to know your folks as an adult, as a totally separate person, then it kind of works backwards. you learn about them and you start to see where you are similar. it's all very interesting and such an amazing experience! best of luck, babes. keep positive about it cos this is totally natural and it's just the beginning of something new and improved, not the end of something altogether.

much love.

I took my mum to a concert to break our monotonous relationship patterns - perhaps you could try likewise? :o)

Yeah I'm thinking meeting on neutral ground for lunch. Or going to a play or something cultural.

Thanks for the advice. I need it.

just cause i'm on a 'comment all over erin' moment,

you just made me dread going to my parents house. i have had long ranging issues with me pa, and every weekend i go back i spend all weekend with them. live with them. eat with them. talk to them. mum and i are great, and she knows me so well and sticks up for me, but there'll be a moment where he picks a fight and then i bite... and blah blah blah. but, yes.

this is sooo breakfast club. 'my folks really beat up on me'
