It's been ages since I used pico (I mainly use joe now) but I seem to recall that ^O will export/save the current work without closing.

Hope that helps.

Yup, ^O (write out) is equivalent to save in GUI text editors... Consult the dummy bar at the bottom of the pico screen for command reference

emacs can also run in text only mode, with most of the same functionality as the XWindows version. Also, decent FTP clients will allow you to edit text files on the server right within the client.

in my FTP i can edit it, but it doesn't do stuff like indent for me, or alert me when i forget a semi-colon.

I use watcom, but parts of my watcom don't work and I'm trying to avoid redownloading it.
