Just archiving some of my Trek snark from elsewhere on the "webbiscape" on this, the first official day of memory-wipe "Dawson's Trek." If Trek offends, by all means drive on by

Actually, probably more accurately, it's really an Augustus Gloop sequence.
Try as he might, Simon Pegg is just nails-on-the-chalkboard bad in this.
Seriously, Scotty here is found in the Dharma tunnels on the Hoth-esque planet of snow vagina monsters; and he has a friggin' mute ughnaught as a pet familiar. It's nauseating.
Being a snooty gay person..you have my permission to not like every aspect of this movie...and I will also support you from all the spoiler queens who now go apeshit because you revealed parts of this movie...
I have a spoiler friendly journal...so be rest assured that your review was welcome.
Eh. When the shit hits the fan, I'll just "flounce" the post and replace it with "Star Trek is aaammmmmaaaaazzzzing!!!"
That seems to satiate the kids these days.
Apparently the fauxhawks can have an entire conversation based on how they pronounce and extend the vowels on the word: "amazing." It's like a modern-day "dude."
Because I wasn't a Trek fan before seeing this film, and because I liked the movie so much and my opinion is also my job, I've been really curious as to how longtime Trek fans would react to this. Because as a newcomer to the Trek world, I really had no idea in my review exactly HOW to address the concerns of longtime fans.
Weirdly enough, of the three longtime fans I know, two of them have seen the film and love it. Manohla Dargis, who is the film critic for the New York Times, is one of them and her review can be found through Metacritic.com. I just read it and wondered how people who disliked the movie would react to what she wrote about it.
I'm really looking to hear what another longtime friend who wrote for Voyager has to say about it after he sees it this weekend.
As you can see, I'm less interested in hearing other praise-filled opinions and more into hearing about who hates it and why. I have no idea what that says about me.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I didn't completely hate it. It is "Star Trek" after all. Even bad "Trek" has its moments. I haven't yet detailed the parts that I thought were spot-on. It's just that I couldn't connect with it emotionally like I have (and still do) with the original cast and crew. The "Dawson's Treklings" were total cyphers to me. I just could not have cared less whether any of them survived to the final frame (which to me is a flaw that all of JJ Abrahms' works share
