So
deltashade has been doing this video game meme, and I'm ganking it because I am curious myself to see how I answer the questions. Because I have not come by video-game geekdom in quite the same way as everyone else.
I am about to reveal exactly how young my destiny as a mild-level computer geek was cemented.
1992, Disney, Mickey's 123's : The Big Surprise Party
This game is exactly what it sounds like : a simple math learning game for young children with a lot of routes you could choose to follow. Most of it was walking around buying certain amounts of supplies, like balloons or cake, depending on the number of attendees if I remember this correctly.
(There's a Let's Play on Youtube.
Let me repeat that: there is a
Let's Play of this on Youtube.)
I was five, or maybe six. My mother had always worked with computers, and the monitor displayed only in monotone yellow. On a scratch-paper tucked inside the box were the run commands for the MS-DOS interface, and a large five inch floppy disk rested next to it. I played this game over, and over, and over. Somehow I always missed the other classics of the era--Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island--but I graduated to the King's Quest series as I got older.
King's Quest is an entirely separate and lengthy post in terms of my weird love-affairs for certain game series.
My roots has always been in computer gaming, missing the consoles entirely until introduced to Pokemon with the Game Boy Color by
thecurtain (Yes I have known this lady for that long.) I worked in DOS for along time and I'm quietly pleased about it.
