He knew he’d get rejected. He knew she wouldn’t say yes. Not to him.
The rest of the day was going to be bloody awful.
But still, he walked up to her, a feeling of dread in the pit of his stomach.
“‘ello, Mandy,” Seamus said, his voice cracking slightly.
She looked up at him, biting her lip. “Hi,” she said.
Seamus closed his eyes slightly, to steady his nerves. However, all he could concentrate on was how wonderful she smelled - like a bouquet of flowers.
“Was there something you wanted?” she asked kindly.
Seamus opened his eyes and cleared his throat. “Would you, er, like to go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?” he asked her.
“Really?” she said, a pink blush spreading across her cheeks.
“Yes,” he said, grinning slightly. “As a way of thanking you for help with my Transfiguration homework.”
“Oh.” Her face fell somewhat.
Idiot, Seamus thought. “And for being a great person who’s funny and sweet and smart! And, well, uh, because I really like you!” he rushed on, hoping he hadn’t completely ruined everything.
“All right then,” she said, giggling a bit. “I’d love to.”
Seamus’ heart nearly stopped beating. He hadn’t gotten rejected. She’d said yes. To him.
He walked away, the feeling of dread no longer inside of him. Instead, he felt nothing but lightheadedness and contentment.
Today was going to be a wonderful day.
