What a delightful idea! I love the idea of making a story out of going through a chest of things. There's something bittersweet about it, of course, since Frodo and Bilbo are gone (I'm such a Frodo girl all the way), but it's also warm and comforting as well.
That's exactly how we imagined it - full not only of sad, but of happy memories as well that will help Sam, Merry, and Pippin to really accept that Frodo had to leave and that he is gone. We shall have to wait and see if we accomplish that in the end.
Ah, I'm wish we had been able to get another chapter up before ELF, but unfortunately, RL got in the way. Dreamflower had surgery and I was on holiday. But we are both back now and working to finish up and post the next chapter

Dropped by to read the latest chapter and realized that I was one chapter behind! I need more time to read. I have simply got to find a way to quit work and be wealthy. LOL I loved the letters in this, even the sad ones. I felt so sorry for poor Merry. He had such a special bond with Frodo. I loved when Sam saw the drawing of himself and realized that Frodo thought more about him than he realized.
Perhaps you can come down here and try your luck at one of the newly opened casinos. I think the Imperial Palace has a really big jackpot coming up soon...
Merry's bond with Frodo was completely different than Pippin's and Sam's--for all practical purposes, Frodo *was* his big brother for seven years. That's not something lightly cast aside.
And I think Sam was bit surprised to realize how much Frodo did think of him back then.
By the way, did you like the sheep stories? Jackie had you in mind, I am sure!
I adored the sheep. I think one or both of you should write out that 'set the sheep free' scene as a wee Hobbit story. In fact this totally explains why, in one of my stories, all Pippin sees when he looks at the clouds is sheep. LOL So, which of you wool-footed authors wrote the sheep's part of the tail, er tale? You mentioned Jackie so am I to assume that she is the one pulling the wool over our eyes so successfully or are you the one?
Picture a large gathering of little Tooks, all holding their individual sheep! It'd be a flock of Tooks! Just think of being the shepherd who has to keep that flock from getting lost!
Guilty as charged, with pleasure. I adore your Cloud as well as your own sheep story and I think I mentioned to you that we have our own flock of toy stuffed sheep, including the one pictured in the Authors' Notes (that one is actually named "Merry"). We have Merry, Pippin, Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and even a Sprout. Oh, and my sister has two from a neighbouring flock named Samantha and Gertrude. Obviously not related to my flock of sheep. lol
