A Tooksday Story

Since Pippin is the main character in my story for Marigold's Challenge #28, I figured I'd post it today for Tooksday. After the destruction of the Ring, Pippin ponders how to tell his parents he is safe, but can't seem to find the right words...

Here's the link at SoA:

Read it again and loved it again. I still enjoy his speech in this one.

I really liked this! One of my abiding concerns beyond the main story of LOTR has always been what the parents and loved ones left behind must have endured when their boys literally disappeared, with no word, off the face of the earth (or at least the earth as countenanced by the Shire). Because in addition to the inexplicability of it all, Merry and Pippin were only sons and Heirs, and Sam was the only son the Gaffer still had at home, and the one he relied on, so the loss must have been appalling to contemplate. I like that it was Pippin first who minded his love and duty in your story, and that he sorted it out so beautifully. You bestow maturity in delightful balance with the unwavering eagerness and enthusiasm of his character!!
