man i still feel bad for a lot of my friends who got screwed by various Hagwons...i have a friend who is looking a first-time job in Korea too. any recommendations?
Eeew Kid's Club. I've heard so many horror stories about that place. I think it's on my list already but I'll add it again for emphasis XD
The thing with hagwons is that they all suck, and the ones that don't are exceptions. I wouldn't recommend working for any hagwon. I've heard mixed reviews about the EPIK program, and recruiters are awful too. So for Korea, I think the best bet is to land a job in a university. Other than that, I'd poke around the internet and find someone who actually liked a particularly hagwon. I've had YBM hagwons reccommended to me, although YBM is on my blacklist, just because it's a huge chain and some of them are run well while the majority are shit to work for. And always ask to speak privately to any foreign teachers already working there. I tend to haunt the Dave's ESL Cafe boards and pick up any names and email addresses and empoyers names of places where people say they're happy.
