- Tiring flight - shoehorned into a 707, every seat occupied, long lines for the toilets, etc.
- Sun never set due to the polar route (greenland, iceland) never really got any sleep
- One interesting stewardess - brunette, seemed rather prim, older - turned out to be european (French?) very good looking when smiling w/ her hair down - good english ("you lucked out" / "they goofed", etc) chic plastic shoes + purse (Jordan?) - very modern jewelry - classy but probably very capable girl
- Flight uneventful, generally tiresome / PanAm cutting costs.

Heathrow airport / officials stamped all passports - had book w/ names of physicists at conference! - crowded w/ long lines

Weather very changeable - clouds, continually obscuring sun / 70's but chill wind blowing - uncomfortable because my clothes are too light - wore turtle neck - got too warm walking

Met Fred + Tricia Winkelmaum / Staying at same hotel - asked about L.K. + Pierre B. - had coffee and gossiped at hotel

Conference reg. fee was bloody high (28 pounds ~ $70!)

Hotel (Kensington Close) modern + expensive (~ 1/3 discount for conference) but usually $20 single like U.S. shoebox single has BW tv, tiled bathroom, etc. very similar to scandinavian hotels. Large lounge downstairs for sitting + drinks. TV has 3 channels (BBC #1, 2 + ITV)

Not too many people I know at conference - huge number of people - lots of big wheels like Chew, Weinberg, etc.

Time difference is hard to adjust to. I finally gave up and napped from ~2 - 8pm, then dashed over to IC to register. My time was about 2 AM when I arrived.

Odd business at Heathrow about having my name in a book. Wonder what would have happened if it hadn't been there? Where they really tightening up hard on all security precautions for entering foreigners?
