Hee. I love crows (and birds in general) - they're possibly the most convenient compositional element of all, and they're cute to boot. :)

I actually hadn't seen Roberts's work before - thanks for the tip! Yeah, I have a huge art crush on Wyeth. :) I really wish the Brandywine guys were still around and teaching; I'd be there in a heartbeat.

I'll let you know when it's done! It's definitely going to replace the pirate piece of mine I have up on the wall now.

Looking forward to seeing the Warlord pieces.

This one is lovely. Bravo!

It just occurred to me that what I want this piece to have is STAIRS. If the foreground of the arch is 1 story (or more) above the bkgd it would admirably explain the seemingly greater remove from the bkgd, the thinness of the arch and make the piece even more precarious/dynamic.

Also, greater size differentiation among the fab birdies will make the piece more dynamic too.

Good point - I fiddled with the birds some, but you're right, they can still use more variation.

Where do you think I should fit the stairs in? On the left? I'll give it a shot, I'm just not sure how to put them in without breaking the compositional curves (unless I did some sort of spiral staircase, though I think that would end up looking more interesting than background elements ought to do...)
