Heh. Now I just have the ongoing mental debate about whether or not it's worth it to put together a non-genre portfolio - one of these years, I'd like to start approximating a decent yearly wage, but I'm not sure if I ought to stick with F/SF for a while longer (since I like it better, can only really sustain one solid portfolio, and I don't honestly know if the midrange market's better on the other side of the fence) or gradually switch (if you *can* land gigs out there, it looks like they pay double or triple what I'm currently getting, and are supposedly less headachy to deal with in general.)
You seem to work on both sides - what do you think?
Heh, it's still an abstract debate until Comic-con - I'm trying to give the fun stuff enough of a run that I can feel certain I tried, particularly since I'm not even sure if the non-genre illustration world really *wants* somebody who paints like I do any more. Should I still not have much success courting the book publishers by then, though, I'm going to have to start figuring out some different ways to do business one way or another.

The only way to get better is to do the work, and you're definitely doing the work!
