Heh. The AD wanted some sort of post-stab/pre-throw position... and that was the best way I could think of to do that at the time. If I had it to do over again, I probably would've held it differently so that came across better, though.
Wow, those are great! Particularly like the first one. (Mine were pretty pathetic, but then, I wasn't asking for much money, either...)
... tho, wouldn't the embers be falling out of that torch/brazier? Maybe centrifical force holding it all in? And dagger arm in second people looks a bit painful--but love the action! And love the overal style and execution of both! Really fantastic pieces--and should look great on the card.
Heh, I think it was mostly that I finally could switch away from working for a client who never let me do any interesting angles, cropping, or anything... so I probably spent more time on these than was reasonable, just because I got to actually let loose.
Hmm. I may have to try adding some embers falling out when I print it for the yearly portfolio stuff.
Yeah, I wasn't too sure about that arm position, but the AD wanted some sort of post-stab/pre-throw position and didn't like the first arm position I drew, so uh... that was the best I could figure out how to physically do that at the time, but you're right, probably not the best solution in retrospect. There's definitely a couple of bits of the anatomy that make me cringe now. Oh well, just gotta churn out more stuff so I can have a good folio by the summer...

Although I'm not sure what she thinks she's doing with that dagger in the second one. =)
