I love seeing the in progress pieces. It makes me feel like "oh, so when I paint messy it's okay..." Cuz half the time I'm doing backgrounds at work I keep griping to myself, "Why isn't it clean from the get go D:<"
Heh, I do so many messy blobs figuring stuff out. I'm really envious of the people whose structure knowledge and advance planning is solid enough to not need to wander down all the blind alleys, but so far, I definitely need lots of time to make a mess and experiment if I have challenging subject matter.
One of these days I'll take the time to do more master studies/film stills... those are supposed to speed up the rough phase of things, I think.
There's some design stuff that I can suggest (like the blown cape and the tree area having the same width and light/shadow (like two adjacent cylinders) and creating a sort of stasis upper right. I look forward to talking with you in San Diego again this year, because this stuff just doesn't make as much sense in text. :)

Better, yes. I'd create a harder triangle and be rid of the parallel lines in the cape-end that lineup with the tree (if that makes sense). THere seems to be nothing gained by mirroring that shape, and much to be gained my dynamically cutting against it. I'll be home on Monday and can talk to you more then if you're so inclined. Bon chance!
Oh, and I'm looking forward to seeing you too! Hopefully we'll have more spare time now that Wizards has seen the light and will be doing efficient portfolio reviews...
I take great glee in my female characters largely being a) dressed for the occasion, goddammit and b) badass. (Probably because I pose for 90% of them, and it's a lot more fun to cast yourself as a some sort of Doer of Things.)
