After several months of burn-out, I seem to be getting things done again. Switching the topic of my general paper (a paper I have to write as a milestone requirement for my PhD) to a subfield I am already competent in has helped a lot. Never mind that it was supposed to be defended by June. Nobody seems to mind all that much

Re: that PhD comic: Ugh. At least I am not writing my dissertation yet. Not officially supposed to start that for about...oh...8 or so weeks.

As far as my students go, they could be worse, I guess. This is the first time in about two years I really miss having UCSC students. They were always brighter, and no matter how weird they were, their quirks at least made them interesting. The semester's half way done, so only like about 6 more weeks with these ones.

At least the crazy evil darkness of the UK does not come with the terrifyingly awful weather of New England. I'd happily trade the darkness for a few feet of snow. I reckon being south of here a ways makes things a lot better.

I also just realized, reading my original post again, that I sound more miserable than I actually am. Things are actually going well right now, academically speaking, and I am happy about it :)
