That Aweful Bitch.

I don't watch "Dollhouse". Partly because I don't have the time, but mostly because I don't appreciate a TV show coming not from the creative impulse of a writer, but from the desperation of an actress looking for a job.

I was reading Tycho lambasting Dushku for saying, basically, that episodes 1 to 5 are bad because of FOX, and that people should ( Read more... )

This must be the worst reason not to watch a TV show ever.

Tycho's point is still valid, though. The thing is, right now Dollhouse is still nice, which is head-and-shoulders (and probably chest and abdomen and most of the legs) above every other sci-fi drama on right now. If it really gets better, I guess the first episodes can be forgiven, if not forgotten. The purist demand not to work with any network which will make you compromise your creative integrity is nice for Tycho, I guess, seeing as boring repetitiveness is kind of their bread-and-butter over there at PA.

And what's wrong with counting on someone to match their proven track record?

"Proven track record" is a bit of begging the question. I don't know if Whedon has a "proven track record", because it begins to look like a "One (Amazing) Hit Wonder"-kid over here.

My actual point wasn't so much "Never Compromise" (me not being Rorschach), but rather that the show should be judged on its own merits. If people start saying "It would get better, remember Buffy!" or "Obama says: stay at home, watch TV!" it means they can't say "Watch the show, it's good."

Tycho's point was "never compromise".

Your point was something about a comment she made in some interview. So yeah, maybe she isn't the sharpest knife in the tool shed. How does this relate to whether the show is any good?

...And how come we're even discussing this three episodes in? There have been too many great shows that picked up only in the second season for me to pass judgment before at least 10-12 episodes into the first season (preferably more). It's like reviewing the first 20 minutes of a film.

PLUS one excellent show is enough of a record for me. Granted, I'm not sure we're even talking about the same show here, but yeah, whatever.
