FYI (because you seem the sort to appreciate knowing things): this would not have been known to Rachel-then, but Jews mark the anniversary of someone's death, which is called a "yarhzeit" - see here for more info. I will always be aware of my parents' birthdays, but the religiously significant date is the Hebrew date of death.

Yeah, at seven or so, I suspect Rachel remembers birthdays more. It's possible she doesn't know the day of their death, for that matter. But I appreciate the information, because no, I didn't know.
