Can I?

Today I'm going to help with a lesson about 'can.' Sentences like 'can I ...?' and 'can you ...?'

We're going to start out by doing some model dialogue, and I'm going to ask some questions to the kids. Like, "Can I use your pen?" And one of the sentences the teacher suggests I use is, "Can I touch your hair?" which is so, so creepy. So creepy.

Yeah. Well, I think it's kind of the point, right? Check and make sure they're listening.
I made sure to ask a kid "can I sit here?" first, then gave him very obvious hints that he should say yes. And when he did, I sat on him. So after that, they were thinking about what they were saying. It's good.
