Former Connecticut Democratic State Rep. Evelyn Mantilla came out as the nation’s first bisexual state official in 1997. Since then the number of bisexual state-level officials who have come out during their term has slowly grown to six.
As the title says, this entry is featuring out LGBTQ elected officials on a State Level who identify as the "B" in LGBTQ. Michael Huffington, a respected and valued member of the bisexual community served in both appointed and elected positions on a Federal Level.
State (and Local) elected officials are the workhorses of democracy and are where the majority of those who seek higher office first cut their teeth. But they get precious little attention and applause. So it's a good thing to be aware of and salute all these hard working people.
