Another demo

Here's a new recording of me covering "You Can Close Your Eyes" by James Taylor. It's for Alanna's birthday, as it's one of her favorite songs. It's also given me the chance to expirement some with my new microphone and new recording software. As it stands, it's probably my most professional sounding home recording yet. Give it a listen:

It was a good decision to sing the lead in your lower voice, rather than try to sing like James Taylor. It makes the song your own, that way. I like your guitar playing too, and I suppose that's where the James Taylor sound comes through the most.

Not a particularly great song though. Nice tune, but nothing in the lyrics.

James Taylor is such a great singer. And amazingly his voice is virtually unchanged over the last 35 years. Not many people from that time can say that.

Actually, it is a nice song on further listens (not talking about the performance, but the song itself). I listen to too much weird stuff, I think....it warps my mind.

Yeah, it's not a bad song. It's nice and short so it doesn't really have much time to offend. Alanna liked hearing me sing it, so that's all that matters :)

And yeah, you're right, James Taylor's voice has NOT changed for some 30+ years. I got a free copy his last album (October Road, 2002) from work and I was amazed at how it sounded like a time capsule of 1971, and I mean that in a good way. His voice hadn't changed at all, and the songs were pretty good too. I also have the "Sweet Baby James" album, but that's about as far as I'll delve into his material. Not the biggest fan, but I can see the similarities in our styles. Maybe I should try to shop "Virginia Come Down" to him? :)

OMG, Virginia Come Down does sound like a James Taylor song! I never noticed that. I can totally hear him singing that now.

Your songwriting is more diverse than James Taylor's is, though.
