Played @ the Open Mike tonight. Before the show we filmed some TV spots for a local channel, advertising the Open Mike at Serious Coffee. They were Christmas themed so I sang an abridged version of "Needles and Pine", the old Smidgen song. Later, when James (the host) was being interviewed, the cameramen asked Sophie and myself to sing some ( Read more... )

Hey Geoff. I think I'm gonna try to play Slide tonight at the Porter's Pub Open Mic. I have it more or less worked out (I think), and I've been playing it for a couple days now. I'm cutting the section of the song (3:55-4:20 on the recording) where you're "oooing," as I don't think that'll work live (for me, anyway). But I seem to have the rest of it down pretty good. I love singing the "Turn your back and lie" part, especially. I sing it differently, like an angry John Lennon (along the lines of the angrier parts of "I'm So Tired"). I'm having fun with it. If I can remember the words....that'll determine whether I play it or not!

Actually, last night's snow storm determined whether I played it or not. No Open Mic....snowed out! Hopefully next week.

Damn! If at all possible, try and record your performance. I'd love to hear your take on "Slide"!

Here's a solo acoustic version of Slide. I recorded it on Wednesday night when I was rehearsing and I wanted to hear what it sounded like. There's a couple lines that are different, in spots where I couldn't make out what you were singing on the Teenage Love recording. So I made up something that sounded similar to what I thought you were singing. The chords are a little different in some spots too...I just wanted to find chords that would let me sing the song. It's still the same song....just my interpretation, I guess.
