It would be theft if I didn't fill you in on my debacle of the day. Debacle - big, strong word. Makes me look both smart and daring - daring to have taken part in a debacle, and smart to know what it means. So here it is

Good grief. What an awful gym teacher. I can't offer any real advice, legal or otherwise, but I'd like to commend your bravery. I felt uncomfortable standing and repeating the pledge for most of high school, and still feel weird about it, but I always stood just because I didn't want to call attention to myself. Clearly you're within your rights under state law and frankly I can't see how this wouldn't be covered by the First Amendment. And even if you had been breaking some ordinance, that gym teacher was still WAY out of line. Damn.
That's ridiculous. Male gym teachers have a great potential to be pretentious assholes.
I hope everything works out. I don't see why you should have to stand for the pledge at all. As long as you're quiet and don't purposely try to disrupt it, then there shouldn't be any problem. This country's all gone to hell, anyway.
Assholes like your gym teacher are the kind of people who give the rest of Americans a bad name. (And most of the government, too, but that's not the point.) I don't have anything constructive to add, but you are AMAZING for standing up for your rights like that. Go you.
America scares me. Not Americans, just the whole country-as-an-ideological-power thing. Most people in Australia don't even know the words to the anthem, let alone whether or not we should be standing sitting or lying down to say it.
I am so proud of you that you stood up to your teacher and administrator like that. It doesn't really surprise me because I know what a strong person you are. I think you should definitely go for it was you were wronged and you are so passionate about it. I support you all the way.
