my second thanksgiving away from home has come and gone. it was a very nice day. dan and i spent it with his family on long island. we had the turkey and all the trimmings, but beyond that the day felt like a regular (but longer) visit with his family than it did thanksgiving. i miss being with my family, but oddly i feel like this is part of my ( Read more... )

Hey, Jean. All this food at Thanksgiving and reading about you being away from home got me to thinking. Are there any Mom and Pop Southern style restaurants up there in the big city? I bet they'd be a hit with the exotic food crowd, and the homesick displaced Southerners like yourself.

hey there, ryan. i'm sure there are. oh the top of my head, i know of a few soul food/southern places. my girlfriend worked at one for a few years, until just recently--called amy ruth's. it's in harlem. my parents and i went there when she was still working--awesome sweet tea, good "heart healthy" fried food and potatoes, etc.
