If you live in California, there is a really good documentary on KCET right now about domestic violence with commentary/stories from the women themselves.

It's scary when you hear something on the television that has really happened to you.

I just got home, I'm not certain if its still on, but I'll go and check. I live in a suburb of Los Angeles County, so I don't know if we have the same channels. Which part of California do you live in?

Mine is channel 03, but for some people it's channel 28. Currently, I live near Toluca Lake.

(it's still on)

it's scary and really hard to watch.

i missed the first part - is it about some sort of learning center thing for survivors?

i believe so. the first part was an introduction to a few of the battered women. i think it's actually a place for women to live, but i'm not sure.

it seems to keep jumping around but i'm really overwhelmed.

i think you're right, watching more of it, it seems to be some sort of shelter.

it's incredibly overwhelming, all i can do is nod and and try to make the lump in my throat dissapear. it's so..strange, to hear all these different aspects of your childhood on tv.

thank you for pointing it out. i'm glad to see this, actually hearing people speak about it, it makes me feel less alone.

is that channel the public broadcasting channel? i remember flipping through some shows a week or so ago and watching something about domestic violence. it had women in shelters talking to counselors. i didn't watch enough of it, though; it was hard.

When I lived in Connecticut, I was driving home one night when a woman ran out into the road in front of me waving her arms to flag me down. I was driving through a really bad neighborhood, so I almost didn't stop out of fear that I was being set up to be robbed. Then I noticed that her blouse was partially ripped. Her jeans were unbottoned and halfway unzipped. She had one sandal in her hand the other was hanging off her foot around her ankle. I pulled over and gave her a ride. She was sobbing hysterically and said her boyfriend had assaulted her and when she wouldn't have sex with him he kicked her out of his truck. (This was a really bad neighborhood in Bridgeport.) She had no money, no keys to her apartment, and no ID. I spent about 20 minutes with her as I drove her to a bar where a girlfriend of hers worked.

I could only watch the show for a few minutes, but the discussion among these women made me remember that woman I gave a ride to something like 17 years ago.

Thanks! No rush.

I figured you lived or worked in the Burbank/No Ho area because you've mentioned Duttons on Magnolia and one of your user info pages (1977?) listed Fiesta Taco--both within walking distance of my house. When you wrote you lived near Toluca Lake, I realized you were pretty close. My last apartment was in Toluca Lake according to the mailing address, but the apartment building next door was in N. Hollywood. So, I guess I was more Toluca Lake adjacent. :)
