KEYLOCK from Cross Mount

Hey, so this is the first post EVER. Um, basically, I guess the main thing to realize that this position is the "cross-mount"and not the "side-mount". I will explain what a side mount looks like some other time (like a judo scarf hold) but for now, lets just get it on!!!

THE KEYLOCK: AKA (HAMMERLOCK, PAINTBRUSH, REVERSE KIMURA, AMERICANA, KICK ASS MOVE)

Step 1
Justin maintains control in a cross mount by placing his chest perpendicular across Zack's chest(ala, like a cross, hence the name). he uses his right arm to control vertical movement of zack's head and is careful to keep his left arm available to post for balance. This is a basic cross-mount position.

Step 2
Pressure on Zack's head forces him to make a stupid move and he uses his right arm to defend his face. Justin quickly capitalizes by grabbing Zack's right forearm with his right hand in a 4 finger grip. Justin still maintains his pressure on Zack via body weight.

Step 3
Justin then slides his left arm underneath Zack's trapped elbow and grabs his own right arm in the same 4 finger style. (this is the 4 finger grab btw.) At this point, he forces Zack's knuckles on his right hand towards the mat, and "paints" downwards with it.

Step 4
The correct motion is a "j" like one. As justin pushes the right arm down, his left arm forces the trapped elbow up. since Zack is fat, his range of motion is his shoulder is much tighter than that of...skinnier people and he will tap at a fairly early position. However, to keep Zack from rolling out and reversing the position, Justin keeps a low center of gravity on Zack's upper body, forcing Zack to stay immobile. The important part besides the positioning is the motion of the trapped arm.. it is important that the trapped elbow stays tight to Zack's body and that the knuckles "paint" downwards... hence, the "paintbrush" name.

Keep in mind, do not attempt this move if you cannot secure a strong cross-mount. It is important to keep your opponent's head down on the mat so that you dont'waste energy because you are producing FALSE leverage. if his shoulder moves, his head will, so prevent the head from moving.
