ok. this post might be a little controversial, but here goes. there's two things i'd like to discuss today. the first is the indie world's inclination to wear the past on their sleeve. i was talking to some "cooler than thou" scensters yesterday, and they were going on and on about how the boss' new album is great. i told them i agreed, and ( Read more... )

hey chris! i'm totally with you on point number one. as for the spoon stuff, i can see how the hype has been a bit much, especially for kill the moonlight. i agree that a series of sneaks is still their best work to date, but i still maintain that telephono is an amazing album, and i think advancecassette might be willing to go a few rounds in it's defense, too!

the funny part about the whole springsteen revival is that no one is willing to admit to being down with the only album of his they probably owned back in the day: born in the u.s.a. because it's not cool to boogie to "glory days." nebraska is one of those albums like paul's boutique or pinkerton that initially disappointed, yet years later had everyone scrambling to pretend that they were in on it from the ground floor. like it's not enough to just dig the album and enjoy it, everyone wants to be christopher fucking columbus.

i'm with you on the new spoon album. it's a solid record, but it never truly takes off. it sounds like greatness is around the corner, but they can't quite get to it. still, it's good stuff.
