(After Jo, Three and Koschei have met and separated - for Three and Koschei and/or anyone else who wants to join in)Jo had spent an interesting, not to mention educational time talking to the locals. Despite everything that was going on, there were always people wanting to gossip, or just wanting to tell their story and be believed. Listening was ( Read more... )

"Perhaps you should," Jo said to the Master, although she knew she'd probably be better off not answering and claiming the moral high ground.

She would have objected to being called a good girl by anyone else, but since it was the Doctor saying it, she went off to find some rope. With mines around it wasn't hard to do and she was soon back with a long piece of rope looped over her shoulder.

"Holding his feet isn't taking that much concentration," the Master insisted. "Even bantering with the silly human girl added it, it's a tiny little percentage of my intellect."

"Will you stop stroking your own ego for just a moment?" It was growing rather tiresome. "We still need to clean up his mess - heaven forbid what the humans would do if they stumbled upon an old spaceship at this time."

Upon reaching their destination (a few locals turned curious heads, or rolled their eyes at the drunkard being carried by his mates), the Time Lords plonked their catch down on a chair. The Doctor thanked Jo for the rope and began to tie him down, but he was roused as the Doctor bound his feet and reached out a hand toward Jo. His long, slender fingers stretched out from his hand an snaked their way toward her head where they latched on with some kind of suction force. Light radiated from the tip of each finger, and the alien grinned.

"JO!" cried the Doctor, trying to pries off the fingers, but they were stuck tight. "Unhand her!"

Jo gasped as he touched her. Usually she'd be able to do something to help herself, but she felt tired and lethargic. She didn't have enough energy to lift an arm. She didn't even have the energy to continue standing and she gradually dropped to the floor, the alien moving too, in order to keep his hand on her head.

The Master rolled his eyes at the Doctor's theatrics. He grabbed a board that had fallen off the window and swung it hard at the creatures head, then gave it a kick.

When the creature stumbled, its hand coming away from Jo's head, the Master took out his screwdriver again and aimed it, knocking the creature out again.

He looked at the Doctor. "How are we feeling about killing it now?" he deadpanned.

"We will not stoop to such a level," he firmly replied while checking Jo's vitals. She seemed alright, but it was difficult to tell with only his hands.

"Let's make certain that his hands are bound so that he can not do it again."

Jo had passed out for a moment, but came to at the Doctor's touch. She sat up squinting and with a hand to her head. "He knows everything about us," she said, and winced when she moved. "And I know everything about him. He has a spaceship and a pet in the mines eating people."

There went the Master's advantage, knowledge-wise. "Not 'eating' people," he corrected her. "Processing them."

"'Processing'? Is there something you'd like to tell us?" he asked with a hand on his hip as the alien was beginning to stir.

Jo shook her head, but didn't complain at the Master's choice of words. "They do get a by-product from their pet. Two," she corrected, but one of the by-products the alien wasn't interested in. Except that it brought people to the area.

"One intentional, one a leftover. Their ship is stranded. They're making fuel," the Master told the Doctor innocently.

The Doctor sighed. He understood what being stranded felt like, but surely there had to be a better way to make more fuel.

"What is it exactly that their ships run on? Since you know so much."

Jo would have felt more sorry for them if the one they had tied up hadn't acted the way he had.

"It's a pity the Guardian didn't send us here earlier. Then we could have helped them before they needed to start making fuel."

"The Guardian doesn't care about these people. Why would he?" the Master scoffed.

"They must care to some extent, otherwise why would we be here?" he pointed out just as their 'friend' was beginning to come around again.

Jo smiled at the alien. "We know you don't want to be on this planet," she said. "We'll help you get home."

The alien made a face at her. "No, you won't. I know it's just talk."
