(Whiteboard) Scanner Distribution Announcement

Sep 11, 2012 19:35

A message in red pen is quick to appear, in handwriting that's neat but not as dry as one with a passing acquaintance with the writer might expect.

"We suspect everyone has been as unhappy as we to be sent out distressingly unequipped into mortal peril, mystery, and/or strange nonsense. As you know, we have been endeavoring to correct the ( Read more... )

Barbara was still learning how to use the mobile phone effectively, so her message looked thus:
[GOT ThE meSsage. WheRE met?]
She could have possibly fixed it if she took the time and had the patience, but there were other matters on her mind, and frankly, she was proud of herself for getting that much out. A proper and perfect constructed sentence would have taken twice as much effort.

The response is swift*. And while a great deal more experience texting enables him to be more grammatically appropriate, a great deal more experience texting also imbues his response with certain 21st century conventions of excessive brevity.

Hello Ms Wright. Am in billiards room. If too difficult now, please reply w other location. Thanks IJ

((*Even if the mun's isn't- sorry for the disappearance! :O))

((Totally fine ^_^ I don't think I was in the right head space, anyway))

Barbara didn't bother replying. Using the tiny device made her feel like an uncoordinated nitwit. If she ever had children, was that what it was going to be like? Constantly confused by new things and feeling utterly stupid? She might never find out.

The Billiards Room wasn't terribly far from where she was, and arrived not 10 minutes later. She peeked in to see her note-leaver preoccupied in something else, and she cleared her throat politely before announcing herself.

"I believe you're expecting me?" she asked with a friendly smile.

From where he stands at the opposite end of the billiards table, Ianto looks up from fiddling with what looks like a wristwatch set out on the green felt surface of the table. "So I am. Pleasure to see you again," he greets her amiably, giving her a little wave to encourage her over. "And I believe you're expecting a gadget. I can oblige. Tell me, are you right-handed or left-?"

Loran realized after reading the message that he'd likely have to do quite a bit of reaching out during his time in this strange place, especially if he wanted to get along with everyone. He didn't recognize the names on the message, but being outfitted with the scanner sounded like it was a good idea. It didn't take him long to figure out how to operate the phone, though the technology was rather different than what he was accustomed to.

Hello, Captain Harkness and Mr. Jones. We haven't met yet, but I would like to receive one of those scanners. Feel free to leave a message or call me so we can figure out how to work this! :-)

He receives a reply which reads: Hello Mr. Cehack Mobiles that automatically update their directories upon crew acquisition are, in this instance, useful. You are welcome to one. Will meet you in front of whiteboard. IJ Not knowing exactly how long it's been since this once came aboard, picking a location he knows for a fact that he's already found seems only prudent.

((Apologies for gap & overall slowness at the moment! I can make a starter post once Loran's confirmed or altered the proposed location, or we can thread here as per above which is the very easy option that totally didn't occur to me! >_<))

That seems fine to me! I'll wait for you there.

Luckily for Loran, he hadn't wandered far from the whiteboard device, so there was little chance of getting lost. He made his way back in time, looking around the room for anyone unfamiliar.

(I always understand slowness. No worries. :D)

The man who enters a moment later looks to be later in his 20s than he really is. No distinguishing marks, scars, or engineered features, and is impeccably dressed by early 21st century professional standards in a subtle pinstripe suit, matching waistcoat and burgundy tie. It's an impression of professionalism that's further upheld by the modestly unassuming nature of his confident manner ( ... )

The Master sent a text message: I'm glad to see you proving so useful. Naturally, I'm interested in possessing such a scanner, if I may.

Where can we meet?

traken_master September 18 2012, 02:17:48 UTC
Anywhere we like, of course. We could meet in the console room, unless your friend Mr. Jones would be willing to make coffee for us in the kitchen.

Mr. Jones won't be joining us. I'll see you in the console room in ten minutes.

Martha saw the message and immediately texted back:

Sorry I wasn't around to help with them other than what was necessary. Let me know the best time to pick one up.

She trusts Ianto will understand her message without her spelling it out.

Ian hadn't worked out how to text, so he called and left a message instead (not that he's very sure how those work either).

"The scanners sound interesting, I would definitely like to have one."

((OOC: He can either have left a message on Jack's phone or Ianto's, whichever of you want to get to it))

Meet me in the control room.

Ian did as he was bid and waited in the control room for Jack. While he was there he tried fiddling with the buttons and got the whiteboard to fold back into the wall and come out again, but that was about it.

Jack arrived soon after and gave Ian a nod, pulling a small device from his pocket. He handed to Ian, showing him the features as he did so.

"There's a face here that looks like a watch, just so it doesn't stand out in most time periods. Underneath is the readout for the scanner." He demonstrated. "Keep it on you at all times, that way if you end up outside the TARDIS unexpectedly, you'll have some way of orienting yourself."
