Dear author of a semi-badfic,
Ariana is effing sick and TIRED of being hung above the mantelpiece. You want to talk about Dark wizards abused by Muggles? FINE. You keep the knowledge from DH? I love you. But, ahem, you kept the Dumbledore tombstone in Godric's Hollow. You even had Orion comment on it. So, Ariana existed in your world.
Point being, if you're going to talk about insane, powerful, wandless wizards and witches abused by Muggles (in this case, "Orion Sirius Black" and Voldemort), you had better include Miss Poster Child. I saw from Chapter 66 that you kept Dumbledore backstory (hooray, live!involved-in-the-fic!Grindelwald!), so... yeah. She's in there.
And if you start making up shit about how her problems were GOOD things, my wrath shall be great and terrible. Lookie, I fully believe a very young Tom Riddle WAS bullied at the orphanage and have the crack-theory to prove it. (It explains why Dumbledore's approach to the Basilisk Incident was "Head, meet sand. You'll be cuddling each other until this blows over.") I agree with you there. So why didn't he go the route of Ariana Dumbledore? (Note: In my fanon-canon, he DID - his magic just manifested differently... fortunately for him and unfortunately for the Wizarding world.) In your fanon, Harry (aka Orion) should have as well.
I'm sorry, but the "I KNEW I was special and this magic was a GOOD thing!" excuse just. Doesn't. Fly. Ariana GREW UP in a magical family. If the beating got to her, it would REALLY get to someone who didn't grow up with magic being accepted and knew their power only as "freaskishness". Ariana is THE case study, and while Ariana-like!Harry is a great fic idea (...is literally-Tom-reborn!repentant!Harry a good idea?), that's not what you're writing.
In short, sorry, we've SEEN in canon - the canon you take as canon! - what happens to those abused by Muggles. (Tom Riddle also fits the pattern if you whistle a bit and take out a fanwank-hammer to use on the Orphanage Memory. Ahem. Yes.) It's interesting. Please respect it if you're going to be kind enough to take canon as canon.
Best Regards,
Guardian's Song
P.S. Cruciatus is NOT an effective offensive spell. Stunners, Killing Curses, and so on - even the Blasting Curse - these are more effective. Stunners incapcitate with 100% effectiveness, and if you're looking to do permanent harm, step right up with a bajillion Dark curses.
Yes, I know Shield Charms deflect Stunners but don't deflect Cruciati, but do you REALIZE what it SAYS about someone if they can cast a Cruciatus? Methinks someone liked the Gallant Cruciatus scene and took it to heart as canon instead of a black hole in canon. Oh well.
