there was some school that got mambo to design their uniforms and they were really cool - and of course they didn't have any uniform hassles.

why not get the kids to design a logo or what they wear? it would be a start. i agree that there is more to worry about, but you'd think kids would realise that having to wear a uniform is at the end of the day, the best thing..there's no worry with thinking about what to wear or having to wear something different every single day..and everyone looks the same.

i wish i had a uniform for work!

Aside from the hair thing, those are all pretty standard school dress codes though--the public middle school where I taught, as well as the public high school in a different school system, went by the same rules. For the most part, the kids are pretty used to them and we honestly didn't have many kids trying to break the dress code rules; the ones who did usually did so by mistake and didn't realize that their shorts were slightly too short or something like that.

Agreed. *Most* of those seem pretty normal to me. I don't quite understand the one about "appropriate earrings" or whatever, but most of them seem normal (no see-thru clothes, wear underwear, no cleavage/midriff, blah blah).

My high school got uniforms a few years before I finished and I have to say it made my life much more difficult. I never felt that I had problems with being made fun of for what I wore before. But after we got uniforms I got made fun of all the time. Because everyone was wearing the same things, so the few things I Had that were different stood out that much more. It was a huge pain in the ass.

They got crazy strict after I left (black belts only, a certain color of pants only, with no cargo pockets, etc), though.

The earrings are probably a safety thing, I'd guess.
I can see both sides of it, being a teacher. 10 year old students wearing shirts that say 'Designated Drinker' or 'Tell Your Boyfriend I Said Thanks'. That's fine for an adult but not great for a 10 year old! I don't even think they'd understand it, half the time. That said, I actually prefer wearing my teacher uniform to work every day too!

Just to add 2 more cents to the pile, we are pretty relaxed with our uniforms, and the kids are generally (99.99999999999% of the time) dressed completley appropriately. I guess it depends where the school is as well.
