history:
wiki entry Cheetara dreamed of joining the Clerisy since she was a cub. Losing her family at a young age, Cheetara was a Thunderian without clan. When she was old enough (maybe around eleven-years old), she went to the Clerisy to ask for admittance. Along the way, she met Tygra, a young Prince about her age, who was serving as a sentry. Tygra was infatuated with Cheetara, and if she noticed, she did not dissuade him. With his help, Cheetara reached the Clerisy, though she did not have the proper seal to enter that part of the city. There she met the head Cleric, Jaga.
Cheetara was tested with a gauntlet of speed traps, but failed to gauge the slower pace of the last segment and was struck. Jaga said she lacked the required patience and dismissed her. Rather than go home, Cheetara sat on the Clerisy steps for several days. During this time, Tygra kept watch over her, from afar; and Jaga noted her presence as he came and went. Tygra also discreetly gifted her with a Day Astrid flower, which enabled her to hold out longer, by eating the petals which had beneficial properties. Eventually Jaga was impressed by her show of patience, and accepted her into the Clerisy, and into the Thundercat clan.
From then, Cheetara trained among the Clerics, the "fabled" Guardians of the Crown, an order who served the kingdom as protectors of the royal family and Thunderian tradition, though use of ceremony, magic, and martial arts.
Cheetara sometimes took on the duty of following the Princes, when they went beyond the protection of the palace or city walls. It was on one of these occasions that Prince Lion-O became acquainted with her, as Cheetara stepped in to give aid, when the younger Prince seemed to be outnumbered in a fight with alleycats.
If Cheetara noticed the Lion-O's infatuation with her, she did not dissuade him from it, any more than she had Tygra in the past, but used it to remain close to the Prince. She was taken into Lion-O's confidence and shown why he wandered out of the city: to collect remnants of ancient tech from black market traders. He confessed his belief in stories of lost technology, Cheetara doubted the intent of the merchant in selling "junk" to Lion-O, but to the Prince she only admitted to finding him "different".
This happened on the day of Lion-O's scheduled Rite of Passage, and when the tolling of bells reminded Lion-O of the time, Cheetara calmly watched him rush off, knowing she could easily reach the palace before him.
At the rite, Cheetara was among the Guardians of the Crown called to present the Sword of Omens to the King's heir apparent, Lion-O. In fact, Cheetara had the personal honor of carrying the Sword of Omens.
Tygra, present at his adopted brother's rite, gave Cheetara a playful wink, recognizing her behind her Cleric robe and mask.
Cheetara stood guard, with the other Clerics, as Prince Lion-O made his attempt to become one with the Sword of Omens, and learn if he truly would be king. Though Lion-O passed the test, his uncertain answer about the experience led most to believe he had failed.
When General Grune returned to the capital after a lengthy quest, bringing news that General Panthro had fallen, the King declared various feasts and games in their honor. Cheetara again kept watch over Lion-O and/or Tygra, revealing her presence as an angry mob protested his apparent sympathy for Lizards, who were considered enemies of the Cats.
Cheetara openly chose sides with Lion-O and Tygra, who also intended to defend his brother. With them, Cheetara used her staff fighting skills and speed to defend against the mob, until the King arrived to stop the conflict. after the King agreed to release the Lizard prisoners, Cheetara met Lion-O atop the walls, where he watched them leave. She seemed amused, that Lion-O was different from other Cats in his beliefs, but did not reveal why she followed him.
The next night, the Lizard Army attacked the city. The King ordered Jaga to prepare his Clerics, which included Cheetara. The Thunderian Army marched out to meet the Lizards, and were surprised when the Lizards were able to employ advanced technology, including warbots and missiles. Grune then revealed himself to be a traitor, who had conspired with the Lizard Army.
At this, Jaga and the Clerics moved in. Collectively, they were able to disarm Grune, defeat many Lizards, and even take down warbots.
However, the King moved away from their protection, against Tygra's advise to remain close. King Claudus believed that Grune had Panthro as a prisoner inside the city. This allowed King Claudus and Tygra to be temporarily captured by The Lizards. Lion-O arrived in time to rescue them, but this led to a second betrayal, as "Panthro" slew King Claudus, and then revealed himself to be their ancient enemy Mumm-Ra in disguise.
The Clerics arrived in time to witness this revelation, and Jaga commanded the Clerics "to the Death". Together, the Clerics, including Cheetara, attacked Mumm-Ra, and many died. Seeing the strength of Mumm-Ra's sorcery, Cheetara was fast enough to grab Jaga and dodge Mumm-Ra's attack. They landed near Lion-O and Tygra, who were guarding their father's fallen body, but they were all soon surrounded by the Lizards and taken prisoner.
Cheetara and Jaga were taken to the throne room, where Cheetara was chained to a column to prevent her escape. Mumm-Ra began to interrogate Jaga, using magical torture, but Tygra, who had escaped from elsewhere with Lion-O, disarmed one of the Lizards and used the gun to free Jaga. While Lion-O recovered the Sword of Omens from where Mumm-Ra kept it, Tygra shot the chains, freeing Cheetara also. She removed her robes, and Tygra was happy to see she had survived, while Lion-O was surprised to learn she was a Cleric.
Free, Cheetara helped to fight the Lizards in the throne room. She urged Lion-O and Tygra to retreat, and grabbed the Claw Shield as she ran after Jaga, to an escape tunnel. The four of them, with Lion-O's pet Snarf, entered the tunnel, but Jaga was injured further in sealing the door behind them.
Cheetara and Tygra helped the elder Cleric to walk, while Lion-O watched their rear. Jaga then said there was something that must be done. He place the Claw Shield on Lion-O's left arm, and with his staff, anointed him Lord of the Thundercats, with Cheetara and Tygra kneeling also before their new King.
When it seemed Jaga meant to stay behind, to aid their escape, Cheetara objected, insisting Jaga would go with them. But Jaga declined, urging the others on. He instructed Lion-O to seek the Book of Omens. Then, he commanded them to go again. Cheetara obeyed, and ran through the tunnel with Lion-O, Tygra and Snarf. The tunnel collapsed behind them, leading them to assume Jaga had died.
Cheetara, with the others, emerged overlooking the city the next morning, and witnessed its devastation. Once the main portion of the Lizard Army had withdrawn, and the occupying forces were occupied with looting, they were able to go down and recover Claudus' remains. The body was brought to the place where his statue had stood and burned on a pyre according to Thunderian tradition. Cheetara threw powders into the fire, which altered the color of the flames, while the late king's sons said words over his pyre.
Lion-O announced his intention to go after Mumm-Ra, rather than the Book of Omens. Cheetara objected to this, saying her teacher's last words were to seek the Book. She sensed Lion-O was angry. Tygra also advised Lion-O to change his mind, but Lion-O pulled rank. Cheetara obeyed and followed her new King.
Outside the City, they met the young Thunderians Wilykit and Wilykat. Lion-O rejected their request to join them. Cheetara said nothing, but shared a concerned look with Tygra, when he suggested Lion-O was wrong to leave the kids. Ultimately, Wilykat and Wilykit followed them.
They traveled through various regions: sand, canyon, jungle, rocks, etc. When they seemed to lose the trail, Cheetara noted their supplies were low. Snarf found the trail they were seeking, and a cache of food. Cheetara questioned why the food appeared just as they needed it. It was soon revealed to be bait in a trap, as the Thundercats were caught in a net and hoisted aboard a ship of Fishmen.
Held prisoner with her companions, Cheetara used the chaos, during the attack of a creature known as the Ramlak, to reach a harpoon gun, and use the harpoon to cut through their bonds. The Captain, seeing how they fought when free, allowed the Cats to remain, in exchange for aiding his quest to hunt the Ramlak. Cheetara had a bad feeling about the deal, but Lion-O was quick to accept, and Tygra no help, while he was seasick.
As Lion-O related more and more with the Captain's vengeful quest, Cheetara, and Tygra both questioned him, and the Captain, still they took the ship into a storm after the Ramlak. When the Ramlak surfaced and broke the ship, Cheetara was among those who fell into the Sand Sea. Lion-O, finally realizing that vengeance was not more important that the lives of his people, left the Captain to the Ramlak, and went to help the others.
Back on the ship, Cheetara was careful not to scold Lion-O, just saying he "steered [them] into quite a storm." Lion-O began to apologize to her and Tygra, but was taken by the Ramlak. He soon escaped by cutting through the creature's body from within, causing it to release water stored in its body, and create an oasis within the Sand Sea, for the Fishmen.
The grateful Fishmen gave the Cats a skiff to cross the Sand Sea. Cheetara asked Lion-O what his orders were, and was clearly happy when he indicated they would seek the Book of Omens. Lion-O even let the two younger Cats remain among their "crew".
Cheetara continued with the other Thundercats into a forested region. Here, sitting on watch about the fire at night, Lion-O confessed to her that, although he was not as angry, he felt doubt and despair regarding his father's death and the destruction of their Kingdom. Cheetara took his hand and assured Lion-O that they still had hope.
Their conversation was interrupted, as Snarf jumped onto Lion-O to bring him warning. Cheetara sensed Snarf's intention and rushed up into a tree to survey the area. She saw that the Lizard Army had come across their trail and was following. The other Cats joined Cheetara in the tree, where Lion-O, still having doubts, ordered a retreat. Tygra, not as gently as Cheetara had, tried to remind Lion-O to have hope, by arguing that it was not their way to retreat, and that their father had believed "hope comes from action". Lion-O, in frustration, reminded them that their father's ways had gotten him killed. He then lead them to hide in a briar.
Here the encountered the Petalars, a small, plant-like people, who they soon discovered lived their entire lifespan in what the Thunderians reckoned a single day. They were trying to reach a location called the Cliff of Winds. Lion-O agreed to help them. Cheetara observed that one Petalar, Emrick, seemed to consider Lion-O a hero, and imitated him.
Cheetara and Tygra shared the duty of navigating, while Lion-O spent most of the time with Emrick, seeing something of himself in the Petalar, teaching him to use a sword, and watching him grow to adulthood.
It was Emrick who took the map from Cheetara and recognized a landmark. Before the all could follow, some Lizards caught up with them and attacked. Cheetara called out to Lion-O as he was shot, and fought the Lizards, but was temporarily subdued, as were the other Cats. When Emrick led the Petalars to fight the Lizards, Cheetara recovered and rejoined the fight.
The Lizards were pushed back, and the group continued to the location of the Cliff of Winds, but did not find it as expected. They rested there, Tygra doubting his ability to read the map, and Lion-O doubting the map itself. Emrick optimistically saw even a flawed map as a means of giving others hope that their home could be reached, but Lion-O was still doubtful.
The Lizards then set fire to the briar, which happened to create an updraft that allowed the Petalars to float on the currents and escape the briar. Emrick, though, was elderly now, and died in Lion-O's hands.
Finally inspired with hope, by Emrick's dying words, Lion-O lead the Cats to attack the Lizards full army, and "hope for the best". They all fought, until they seemed surrounded by the warbots. Suspecting they would die, they shared how they were each honored to serve. Cheetara said "My service to the crown has always been a cherished privilege." Just as it seemed they might be defeated, a vehicle arrived to drive off the Lizards. The driver was revealed to be General Panthro, who had not died as Grune had previously claimed.
Cheetara was slightly taken aback by Panthro's spiky armor, once they were all introduced. Panthro's vehicle, the Thundertank, needed Thundrillium. Cheetara accompanied Panthro, Lion-O and Tygra to Cloudpeak Mine to get the element. Along the way, it became obvious Panthro did not yet respect Lion-O as King. Cheetara reminded Panthro that the King he had known had died in defense of his Kingdom, betrayed by Grune.
Surveying the mine, Panthro and Lion-O disagreed over the time to attack. Cheetara and Tygra withdrew, as Panthro had suggested. They then realized Lion-O had not followed. When Cheetara arrived with Tygra at the mine entrance, Panthro had already rescued Lion-O from the Lizards. Cheetara tried again to bring some peace between them, reminding Panthro that Lion-O was their King now. He was not yet convinced, and ordered them into the mine. With Tygra, Cheetara followed Panthro, and Lion-O followed after them.
Inside they found the traitor Grune in command. Cheetara, Tygra and Lion-O surprised a group of Lizard miners and guards in a tunnel, then entered the larger chamber, where Grune was. As Grune started to monologue, Panthro came from another tunnel behind him. Cheetara voiced concerns about Panthro and Grune being together again, worried the betrayal between them would get in the way of the mission.
As they faced off, Cheetara and the others were shaken, literally, by the arrival of Driller, a mechanized being with several drill-head extremities. Grune, retreated, leaving the other Cats to fight Driller. Lion-O was able to use the Sword of Omens to defeat Driller, but in the process the mine was weakened. They ran, almost forgetting the Thundrilium, until Cheetara sped back and grabbed some.
With the Thundertank repaired, they were able to continue their travels at a quicker pace, as well as use the vehicle for shelter. They moved into a jungle region, following clues Jaga had given them when parting. From there, they searched for a sign to show the direction to continue. Lion-O was to use the Sword of Omens to obtain a vision, but it was proving difficult. While Panthro and Tygra were mocking in their tone regarding Lion-O's ability, Cheetara said she thought Lion-O needed to believe in himself more, and that it would help if the others did, too. Tygra seemed disappointed, but did not argue.
Cheetara went to Lion-O, and stepping close enough to make him nervous, as he still exhibited some infatuation for her, suggested Lion-O relax and keep his mind open. They were shortly interrupted by Wilykat and Wilykit, who teased and made kissy faces. Cheetara was only amused by this, but Lion-O was more defensive.
When the younger Cats asked, Cheetara explained why the Book's location was unknown to begin. She demonstrated her knowledge of lore, explaining that the Book of Omens had been sought by other animals, in the past, so a King of Thundera had commanded his Clerics to take the book into hiding. The Clerics traveled away from the kingdom, where they created a temple with their magic to house the Book, and then sealed themselves within.
With some help from Snarf, Lion-O happened upon a tunnel marked by a Lion head. They followed the passage. Inside, they found a catwalk across a pit leading to a locked door. Suspended above were numerous keys. Cheetara knocked down some keys and tried the first in the lock. This caused the walkway to retract. They all fell, saved from falling further, by grasping hold of Panthro, who grasped the ledge. Wilykat was able to climb up and pick the lock.
In the next chamber, they came to a trap of spinning blades. Cheetara used her speed to run through and activate the shut-off.
In the next chamber they accidentally activated a trap that filled the room with water. There was a grate above, but none were able to open it, until Panthro sank, found another passage, and opened the grate from above.
They came to a cliff facing a waterfall, and here Lion-O became frustrated with the seeming end of the passage. Cheetara took his hand and encouraged Lion-O to believe in himself, as she did. Lion-O was then able to get a vision of a switch nearby, which Tygra was able to reach. This revealed the Tower of Omens behind the waterfall, and a path to reach it.
Inside the Tower of Omens, they saw a central column, surrounded by a stairway, leading to an upper chamber. Before any could reach the top, Mumm-Ra arrived, showing that he had Jaga's spirit trapped in a magic lantern, which had forced Jaga to reveal the way to the Tower. Cheetara was particularly affected to see Jaga alive in some form. When Mumm-Ra tossed down the lantern, Cheetara rushed to reach it. She caught the lantern, but Mumm-Ra then turned his magic on her, throwing Cheetara against a wall, and leaving her temporarily stunned.
Cheetara's eyes glowed, as she regained consciousness, indicating Lion-O had used the Sword of Omens to summon her. Lion-O and Mumm-Ra had, in fact, both reached the upper chamber, where he had summoned the Thundercats. The rest of the Cats were in the process of climbing their way up. Cheetara used her speed to run up the walls, bypassing the stairs, and reached the top before the others.
Lion-O was doing his best to deflect Mumm-Ra's magical attacks with the Sword of Omens. Cheetara arrived and struck Mumm-Ra in the head with a flying kick, but he still managed to aim his magic at her, knocking the lantern from her grasp, and sending Cheetara tumbling over a ledge. She held on with one hand, as Lion-O then raced to reach her, but Mumm-Ra took advantage of their positions and shot Lion-O in the back. With Lion-O on the floor, Mumm-Ra taunted him with mentions of killing his father, then tortured him with magical purple lightning.
Jaga, within the lantern, saw Lion-O might be defeated, and sacrificed himself to create a light to drive Mumm-Ra away. Lion-O then reached Cheetara to help her up, just as Tygra, followed by the others, reached the upper chamber. Cheetara saw the broken lantern and clutching it close, told the others what Jaga had done for them.
Some spark, perhaps a remnant of Jaga's spirit, traveled from the lantern up to a suspended cage, which held the book. The book descended and Lion-O opened it, only to announce it was empty.
Lion-O continued to ponder the book, while the others remained at the Tower of Omens. Cheetara trained Wilykat and Wilykit in some staff fighting. Later, looking for Lion-O, they found him on the floor of the upper chamber. When he regained consciousness, Lion-O told them he knew what they had to do (find Stones of Power and united the animals against Mumm-Ra).
The group backtracked to where they had left the Thundertank. Cheetara did not have much to do, as Panthro and Tygra made attempts to get the Book of Omens to interface with the tank, and Lion-O took Snarf with him to get supplies at a nearby town.
The next day they set off in search of the stones. After a while, the Thundertank broke down in a mushroom forest, and an internal explosion caused enough smoke that they had to sleep outside, in the rain. Cheetara took shelter under one of the mushrooms, with Tygra, and slept at his side.
During the night, someone built them a shelter, and left them food. The next morning, the Thundercats all denied having done the work. Cheetara deduced they had someone helping them. After hiding, to watch who might return to the camp, they discovered the Berbils, a bear-like, robotic people.
They were taken to the Berbil village, by Robear Bill, and introduced to other Berbils, who worked at harvesting fruit, and building contraptions to do so. Panthro seemed suspicious, but Cheetara suggested they might really wish to help without anything in return.
An explosion nearby alerted them to the presence of the Conquerdor, who was known to capture Berbils as slaves. Cheetara was the first to announce they had to stop the abductions, Panthro was still suspicious of the Berbils' cuteness, but since Lion-O agreed with Cheetara, the Thundercats helped.
Cheetara did her part in the battle, but a few Berbils were captured. Cheetara found Robear Bill injured, and carried him back to the village center, where he could be repaired.
Once Robear Bill was repaired, by Panthro and the other Berbils, Lion-O devised a plan to rescue Robear Bella, Beebo, and the other Berbils. Cheetara accompanied Lion-O, Tygra and Bill on a scouting mission, where they saw the Conquerdor auctioning various slaves to Trollogs and Giantors.
They posed as buyers, disguised in cloaks, then attacked and released the slaves. With the rescued Berbils, they ran back to the village, but the Conquerdor shouted that he would come after them.
While Panthro and the Berbils built automated defenses, Cheetara kept watch with Lion-O and Tygra. When the Conquerdor arrived with Trollogs and Giantors, Cheetara took part in the fight. At one point, she took down a Giantor near-single-handedly, using her speed and a length of rope to draw him into a trap.
The Berbils and Thundercats were victorious. The Cats remained a short while to help in repairs to the village and Thundertank, before continuing on their journey.
As they drove through a rocky canyon area, the Book of Omens, interfaced with the Thundertank, alerted them the stone they sought was ahead. Cheetara had been in the rear compartment of the tank with Lion-O and Tygra, but they left to take the Thunderracers to scout ahead. Cheetara then opened a top hatch, to speak to Panthro and the kids. Cheetara teased Panthro lightly that he must not care about losing a race. Panthro drove faster, trying to overtake the Racers, but couldn't. Cheetara then jumped from the Tank and ran after the Racers on foot, managing to pass them.
Wilykat accidentally launched seeker missiles. The nearby detonations distracted Lion-O, and Tygra won their race, with Cheetara just behind his Racer. They found the signal they'd tracked came from a village of especially forgetful Elephants. Anet revealed that they may be looking for the Spirit Stone, and invited Lion-O to look around, with the eye of Thundera. Cheetara and the others helped the Elephant Aburn to move food to their storehouses, until the wasp-like Wraith arrived, to steal the food. The Elephants did nothing but "understand". So, the Thundercats helped by fighting the Wraith, but most of the food was taken. Anet was satisfied with this, suggesting they lived in harmony with the Wraith and still had enough food to survive. Lion-O was not satisfied, and left the other Cats to look for the Wraith.
While he was gone, Cheetara and the other Cats were treated to a musical performance by Wilykit, Wilykat and a group of Elephants, including Aburn.
Lion-O returned at night, revealing he had taken care of the Wraith. The Elephants were not pleased. Anet seemed to remember that the buzzing of the Wraiths had kept something worse at bay. Shortly, a giant rock creature attacked the Elephant Village. Cheetara was among the Cats to fight it, but whatever damage they did was magically repaired. Cheetara, Lion-O, Tygra and Panthro were trapped beneath a large stone. They were saved, when Wilykit and the Elephants played a particular note in harmony, shattering the rock creature and ending its magic.
After all these lessens about harmony, Lion-O still could not see the Spirit Stone, though the signal came from somewhere in the village. Anet suggested he go to the Forest of Magi Oar.
The Thundercats returned to the tank and found their way to The Forest of Magi Oar. It was near dark when they arrived, and Cheetara joined the others in setting up camp. Lion-O was frustrated, saying the Book and the Sword pointed to the Spirit Stone being in the Elephant village. Cheetara advised him that it might be possible coming to the forest in some way could help them to find the stone in the village.
Tygra commented on the strong feeling of magic, saying he didn't even need to be a Cleric to feel it. Cheetara touched one of the trees and confirmed the presence of magic, and said there were also spirits, and a gloomy presence.
Later, Cheetara slept in a tent, while Lion-O and Tygra were on watch. She was woken when the others reacted to the appearance of spirits. Cheetara observed the spirits came from the wood. As the Spirits closed on Tygra, Cheetara leapt up and spun her staff to dispel them, but this only temporarily drove them from the immediate area. She seemed genuinely fearful when surrounded by the spirits.
Three Wood Forgers named Zigg, Snips and Gami appeared and drove off the spirits with paper-based magic. They took the Thundercats to The School of Paper Arts within the forest. Zigg explained that he was headmaster there, and their mission was to use the forest's enchantment, through making paper, to protect the forest from a being named Viragor. A recently built paper mill enabled them to make more paper than ever before. Cheetara questioned Zigg, about Viragor and whether the forest could sustain the mill's needs. Zigg answered only that his actions were necessary to protect the Forest.
Soon after, Viragor appeared, a great flying creature, claiming the forest was his. Lion-O wanted to defend the Wood Forgers who had helped him, but was unable to use The Sword of Omens against Viragor. Cheetara used her speed put herself in Viragor's path, and was caught within his mouth, her staff keeping the beak from closing on her.
Just as the staff snapped, Tygra snapped his whip around Cheetara's waist and pulled her free. He then caught her in his arms as she fell. Lion-O meanwhile, got himself captured by Viragor.
Inside the school, Zigg insisted Lion-O must be dead. Panthro reminded them all that Lion-O could take care of himself, and led the Cats outside.
Viragor returned to the school. Zigg began to order an attack, when Cheetara ran over, saying she could see Lion-O was with him. Lion-O dismounted from riding Viragor, and explained that Viragor was the true protector of the forest, and that Zigg had been lying. Cheetara, playfully, reminded them Viragor had broken her staff, but he apologized for that. The Thundercats and Viragor then battled against the Wood Forgers.
Cheetara was able to speed through Snips' pinwheel vortex, but was caught in a paper cage, without her staff. Wilykat and Wilykit freed Cheetara, and she rejoined the fight, taking Gami's notebook, so she had no more sheets of paper. She tossed the notebook in the air, and Tygra shot it.
Virgaor took over the school, and presented Cheetara a new staff of enchanted wood, before the Thundercats left the forest.
As they returned to the Elephant Village in the Thundertank, Lion-O and Cheetara explained to the others that the Spirit Stone was both in and not in the hut in the village, as it was actually in the Astral Plane, accessed through the hut. (This is one scene that implies information is being exchanged between scenes, such that Cheetara sometimes knows of things that happened to Lion-O, which she did not herself witness.)
Lion-O talked to Cheetara about recently mastering use of Sight Beyond Sight. She touched his hand and said she knew there was a reason the Sword had chosen him. Cheetara ducked back inside the rear compartment, while Lion-O spoke to Tygra and Panthro a moment longer.
They stopped suddenly, when Panthro noticed a lot of smoke coming from the village. Cheetara, Lion-O, Wilykit, and Wilykat looked out from the rear compartment, again. Lion-O used his Sight Beyond Sight to perceive that Grune and the Lizard Army were in the Elephant Village.
They relocated to scout the village. Cheetara asked Lion-O what he was planning. He suggested using stealth when night fell. Tygra challenged this, saying they should use the Tank immediately. Cheetara listened to the bothers argue, Lion-O saying that Tygra always questioned his orders, and Tygra accusing Lion-O of having goofed off, when Tygra had been studying strategy with their father.Cheetara attempted to make some peace between them, saying she'd always considered stealth a strength of Tygra's. But, Tygra seemed to take this the wrong way, muttering something under his breath about being invisible.
They enacted Lion-O's plan, sneaking through tall grass at night, toward the village. Lion-O commenting to Cheetara that he and Tygra had always fought since they were cubs. Cheetara said that Tigers were known to be prideful, perhaps suggesting that Lion-O wounded his brother's pride. But Lion-O seemed to take this as her agreeing Tygra was flawed. He continued to say there was a darkness in Tygra. Cheetara answered that this was likely because Tygra had lived his life in his younger brother's shadow.
Using Snarf as a diversion, they took out several Lizard sentires outside the village. Cheetara was able to use her new staff to produce plant magic, such as making roots spring from the ground to attack opponents.
They snuck into the village, where Grune was interrogating Anet about the location of the Spirit Stone. He commanded his Lizards to kill Aburn, at this Wilykit jumped out to defend her Elephant friend, exposing the Cats' presence. Grune made them surrender their weapons. Cheetara surrendered her staff, as the other Cats gave up their weapons.
Grune then attempted to convince Lion-O to tell him the Stone's location by threatening the herd of Elephants. Just as the Elephants were about to be executed, Lion-O called out that he would tell.
Cheetara remained outside, as Lion-O and Grune went into the hut. From there, she could see the blue lightening formed by the Sword of Omens, and then a golden light as the gateway to the Astral Plane was opened.
With the gateway exposed, Grune again ordered the Elephants killed, as well as the Thundercats. Before the Lizards could carry out the Order, the Thundertank's missiles struck the Lizards' warbots. Cheetara exclaimed that she could not believe it, as Tygra, who had snuck away without notice, now drove the Tank up to the village. Cheetara and the other Cats used this distraction to retake their weapons. Grune and his Lizards retreated.
Cheetara then accompanied the other Cats, Aburn and Anet into the hut, where the gateway remained open. Anet warned that the Astral Plane turned thought into reality. Lion-O prepared himself to go, looking anxious. Cheetara kissed him on the cheek and said she believed in him. Tygra was visibly shocked at this. Cheetara looked at Tygra, as he said he also would go with Lion-O into the Astral Plane. The brothers argued some more, Lion-O saying he did not need help, and Tygra reminding him that he had just saved "saved his tail".
Anet commented on the negative energy between them. Tygra agreed they'd fought since they were cubs, and Lion-O relented, saying Tygra could go with him. Cheetara saw Tygra go into the Astral Plane. As Lion-O was about to enter, Anet stopped him, saying he'd had a vision that Lion-O would be betrayed by his brother within the next day. Lion-O protested, saying they fought, but Tygra would never betray him. Aburn said Anet's visions were never wrong. Cheetara then watched Lion-O enter the gateway into the Astral Plane.
(Mumm-Ra had also sneaked in through the portal, but it's not clear from the dialogue that Cheetara knew this at the time.)
With Lion-O and Tygra gone, Cheetara remained on guard just outside the hut. Anet, Wilykit and Kat, and Snarf stayed with her, while Panthro left to scout. He then came back to inform her the Lizards had not fully retreated, but now joined with an additional force, led by Slithe, to surround the village.
The Thundercats split up to prepare. Cheetara remained on vigil at the hut, where the portal to the Astral Plane was still open. Panthro and the others went to prepare defenses.
When it looked like it was time for the Lizard Army to move in, Cheetara met with the others. She doubted they could stop an army of that size. Panthro agreed, but had devices to slow their progress. Cheetara returned to her vigil, while Panthro and Kat went to delay the advance, and Kit and Snarf went with Anet to meditate.
When the attack finally came, Cheetara held her ground at the hut against numerous Lizards. During the battle, Wilykat returned alone. Cheetara advised him to go, saying she would try to hold off the Lizards herself. Wilykat refused to retreat. Just as it seemed a warbot was about to shoot the two of them, they were saved by the Elephants, with Wilykit, who had decided in their meditation that they must temporarily put aside their pacifist ways, to save their friends.
With the Elephants, the Lizard Army was forced again into retreat, but Grune was still there, in combat with Panthro. Shortly after, Lion-O and Tygra rushed from the portal in the hut, warning others to take cover (Lion-O had the Spirit Stone now in his Claw Shield). Grune and Panthro's duel had brought them close to the hut. As the Astral Plane imploded, it sucked Grune in. He begged Panthro to pull him free. Panthro held on, but only to see that Grune was fully drawn into the collapsing Astral Plane.
After the final shockwave of the collapse, Cheetara stood. She looked at Lion-O. He looked at Tygra. Then they all looked toward Panthro, who had lost both arms to the Astral Plane.
(Mumm-Ra escaped the Astral Plane also, but it's not apparent Cheetara knew he was even there.)
That night, The Thundercats and Elephants had a post-victory celebration. During the party, Cheetara found Tygra standing alone and went to speak to him. (This is another scene that indicates Lion-O is giving information to Cheetara about events she did not witness.) Cheetara tells Tygra that she's already been told what happened to he and Lion-O inside the Astral Plane. (Their fears and jealousy manifested as real, encouraged by Mumm-Ra and the two bothers dueled, and had a vision of a time Tygra had endangered Lion-O when they were cubs. During the confrontation, Tygra had admitted he was angry at Lion-O for stealing Cheetara. Eventually they came to the realization that although jealous, Tygra had always regretted endangering Lion-O, and had no desire to betray him.)
Cheetara began to apologize to Tygra, saying she felt her actions had contributed to the tension between the brothers; she hadn't been clear with her feelings. Still thinking Cheetara prefered Lion-O, Tygra said he understood her choice was made. Cheetara corrected Tygra, saying she'd made the choice years ago.. She reminded Tygra about the first time they met in their youth. She revealed that even now, she still carried the remaining heart of the Day Astrid flower he had given her, as a reminder of his kindness.
Cheetara then embraced Tygra, and they kissed each other. A moment later the evening bell rang in the village, indicating Anet's vision about a betrayal to Lion-O in the next day, was in some form correct.
...
personality: Cheetara is both humble and playful. She has willingly chosen a life in an order of Clerics, and has admitted she cherishes her service and considers it a privilege. This does not mean that Cheetara is overall submissive, or lacks in self esteem.
Cheetara does speak when she feels her king is deciding a poor course of action, but she offers her advice respectfully, and ultimately follows his decisions. She also acted against the letter of the head Cleric's orders, in remaining after he initially denied her entrance to the order. In doing so, she showed the very patience and dedication he wanted in his Clerics. Cheetara does not submit to others outside her Clerisy or the Clan she protects, and is often the first to question the actions of outsiders, such as the Wood Forger Zigg, or speak when she encounters what she perceives as injustice, as when the Conquerdor took Berbils as slaves.
Cheetara will advertise that she is the fastest Cat in Thundera, but this is not arrogance. It is a fact she offers, in pledging all her skills to the Clerics and the Crown. Cheetara is well aware of her strengths, but does not consider they make her any more important than another.
Though Cheetara will show respect and humility to allies of her king, such as the Elephants, or Viragor, she does have a playful side, which she shows most often to those with whom she is familiar. Once Lion-O, originally prince and then king, took Cheetara into his confidence, she took some liberties in their relationship, keeping motivations secret, smirking, answering questions "maybe", standing close or making contact without invitation, but only when they were alone, or among their close companions. When the younger cats would see this, and Lion-O's sometimes flustered behavior, they would tease. Kit made kissy faces, for example. Cheetara seemed amused by this, and also without shame for the apparent affection. But, when among strangers or foes, Cheetara does not show this familiarity with her king, because that is not her role, as his Cleric.
She also teases or challenges her other companions. For example, she spars with the twins Wilykit and Wilykat. She goaded Panthro into engaging Lion-O and Tygra in a race. Cheetara also joined the race herself. She teased Tygra about his nervous demeanor with her, when they were younger. This appears to always be done in a flirtatious or playful manner, with friends, rather than in any sort of cruelty.
However, Cheetara's motivations can sometimes be mistaken by others. Lion-O for example has interpreted Cheetara's familiarity and positive reinforcement as serious romantic interest. Tygra, on the other hand, has seemed to mistake Cheetara's wordless acknowledgement of their close friendship as ignoring him, even though she is extremely often at his side, trusts him and his abilities, and has even slept next to him. Once Cheetara realizes her actions have been misunderstood, she acts to clarify her feelings.
She is a Cat who dreamt of being a Cleric since she was a cub. This choice may have been related to her youth as a clanless Thunderian. Though Jaga explicitly told her there is no shame in this; in being without noble birth or titles, it seems what most likely drew Cheetara to the Clerics was a desire for a sense of belonging. The Clerics do not have independent riches or titles, and for all formal appearances, as well as battle, are uniformed and veiled, such that they surrender some individuality to serve a greater cause, which they firmly believe is right. As a Cleric, Cheetara is able to feel part of something larger than herself, and to be at peace with playing her small part in contributing to the protection of the ideals of Thunderian society.
As an extension of this, I do not think Cheetara likes to be alone, and may possibly find it unnerving, especially after years in the Clerisy and her travels with close companions.
She considers it an honor to be the companion of each of the Thundercats, as a Cleric, but she also clearly does, on a personal level, like each of them, for various reasons. She is especially fond of both Lion-O and Tygra. Cheetara can see in Lion-O one who is "different" and "interesting". He believed in equality of all species, and even between classes, when it was unpopular with the ruling class of Cats. As a Prince he visited the slums and defended Lizards's rights. It is because he is a dreamer and compassionate that she believes in his vision as leader, and respects him as a friend. As his adviser, she wants Lion-O to have the support he needs to believe in himself, as much as she does. She can see in Tygra one who is responsible and takes duty seriously, as she does, but also shows great generosity, tolerance and kindness, such as when he helped her to gain access to the Clerisy, stood at his brother's side many times, and consistently put needs of other peoples above his self. It clearly meant a great deal to Cheetara that Tygra was the first person she met to show her kindness, without asking anything in return.
Faced with a situation in which she may be apart from those it is her duty to protect (such as in a game without canonmates), Cheetara will likely go through a time of seeking to return to her duty. Convinced she is unable, I think she will then look for a way to share and protect the beliefs of her people, even if the people are not present. As such she will be drawn to people and cause she sees as honest, honorable, loyal, and just, while doing her best to exhibit these traits. She will oppose what seems against this code.
abilities/powers: Cheetara is known as the "Fastest Cat in Thundera". Though all the Clerics are faster than is normal, Cheetara is faster than fellow Clerics, to the point where any with average eyesight will see only a gold blur where she runs past. It's also evident her speed grew further as she trained, as in her youth, there was not the same extent of blur.
Cheetara is also expert in Thunderian martial arts. Though she specializes in staff fighting, she is able to use hand-to-hand techniques, when deprived of this weapon. With a staff, Cheetara can not only attack and parry physical blows and parry weapons, but she can spin the staff fast enough to create an air current to blow light objects away, or even temporarily dispel spirits.
Cheetara also has an innate sixth sense, and training in magic. She can read emotions, without relying only on body language or tone. She can sense the presence and intention of spirits in an area. She can sense if something is magical. She can magically decrease or increase the length of a staff. If she has her Magi Oar staff, she can use it to produce plant-based magic.
Her training as a Cleric also included Thunderian ceremony, philosophy and history. As such she is qualified to conduct rites, such as funerals or rites of passage. (Probably marriages, though it's not specifically shown.)
As a Cat, Cheetara has night vision, smell and taste above that of human norms, and has day vision slightly below the human norms. Her particular biology also makes her very agile, able to leap to great heights, and climb porous surfaces using her claws.
Though a fierce warrior with spiritual abilities, Cheetara is by no means invulnerable. She can be physically or spiritually overpowered. She can be restrained (she'll eventually work her way out of rope). She's been known to get knocked into walls or objects by heavy blows, such that the second impact does more damage than the initial blow. Her speed makes her difficult to hit with missile weapons, but when she is hit, she can be injured as much as an average person.
Also, because Cheetara was not exposed to high technology until very recently in her history, she will only be able to understand and use technology found in a modern city on a basic or experimental level.
first person sample:[voice -> bulletin board]
[This voice, though potentially female and attractive, is tight with fear.]
Lion-O? Are you on this thing? I've been taken somewhere. [rapid, shallow breaths.] I escaped, but I don't know where I am, now.
[She whispers.] It feels wrong, here.
The moons and giant are gone. I- You said Mumm-Ra's space-ship crashed. It doesn't fly? He couldn't have....
Tygra. [The voice softens.] I didn't leave. They took- I'll hold on. You know that. Until I find a way back.
If this blasted tech is working, I'm contacting you from Central Station. It doesn't feel safe; I need to move. But, I'll leave a message here, so you can find me.
[The message is written on a scrap of paper gown with a red felt-tip-style pen, so the lettering bleeds slightly, but is legible, and in the tone of formal correspondence:]
-----------
Tygra My Beloved Lord King Lion-O, and Prince Tygra, of the Thundercats,
Your Cleric lives and is free of imprisonment. Know that she will do everything in her power to soon return to you. Until then, trust her to keep safe. Should you be near and find this letter, or receive communication through tech, please leave a reply here for her return, or else meet outdoors, at the tall tower with the machine-dial, before the final evening bell. If you should recieve your Cleric's message from afar, know she believes in the ability of you both to continue your shared mission.
Please, take care of each other,
Your most humble servant and Cleric,
Cheetara of the Thundercats
-----------
[The letter has been attached to the board with numerous, rounded, wooden toothpicks.]
third person sample: Cheetara had been calling out and clearing rooms. "Hello." "Is anyone there?" "Can you hear me?" There was no answer, and each room she found empty of life, but full of strange devices, or else identical furnishings, like in cells in her Clerisy, or a prison, but to her senses colder than either.
She walked stealthily on bare feet, practiced at keeping her claws retracted as she stepped. Bare feet were not strange to her, or small garments, but the paper- That brought a memory, from before. A brief imprisonment in an enchanted paper cage, crafted by Wood Forgers, until her young companions had freed her.
"Hello!"
She had not been without companions or a crowd since her youth. Back then, she had been alone, and very nearly lost hope of belonging again, until she met a friend, and was accepted into the Clerisy.
Cheetara put her back to the nearest wall. These identical rooms triggered another memory. Lion-O's story about a space ship, and a corridor with rows of cells, filled with intelligent animal species, kept as slaves.
Whoever- Whatever had brought here here- Mumm-Ra, or Zigg the exiled Wood Forger, or some new power, they'd taken her flower! It was bad enough she'd fallen under this spell and woke without her staff. It was the second one she'd lost in a short amount of time, and this latest had been the gift of an enchanted wood! But the flower, that tiny, dried heart of a Day Astrid-
But, even as the anger roiled within, Cheetara realized she was able to release it. Calmly, she stepped away from the wall, to search some kind of low, enclosed pool of tech and writing supplies. She didn't need the flower. Not anymore. She had the memory of Tygra's kiss. And that had been the clearest indication she'd gotten from him, ever, that his intentions went beyond the friendship she already
cherished.
Cheetara lifted what looked like a pen, and smiled. That memory filled her like a lifetime supply of Day Astrid petals; it could sustain her until she found them. Her Clan. Her Crew.
Cheetara crept away from the reception desk, and took a turn toward another corridor. Here, she paused to uncap the pen. With it she sketched a small five-petal flower, like a star, before continuing along the next row of cell-like rooms.
