For my flights, I usually splurge and buy a gossip magazine. And take a book or 2. I prefer paperback, esp if I got them super cheap as then i can just leave them in the seat back pocket or give them to a flight attendant for their enjoyment. I also look forward to reading the airline magazines and doing the crosswords in there. Silly I know...

When is the Hawaii trip?

If I am traveling from the US? I stock up on magazines, otherwise brain candy books. What book are you planning to take to Hawaii? Have you read The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? LOVE that series, and am now dying for the third book to come out Spring 2010.

For Turkey, I am considering not bringing a book at all. The flight from Vienna is short - roughly 3 hours - so I may bring Time and the tour book. I really don't want to get sucked into another book - would rather focus on Brian.

When I was traveling frequently for work, one of my pastimes was to observe and take a mental picture of the magazine racks in each airport. I think magazine racks are just wonderful pieces of temporary pop-art. I will usually buy one magazine at the rack, but also take one with me that I know I will enjoy, such as Sunset Magazine. I always travel with a book, too, but rarely read it on the plane.
