ok i counted this time so...
malfoy hadn't changed at all since his outburst. he was still as rude as ever when mrs. weasley wasn't around. in fact, he became so intolerable that harry found himself looking forward to the day he would leave the burrow, since that would be the day malfoy would be taken to grimmauld place. harry, ron, and hermione would in fact be the ones taking him there. from grimmauld place, the trio would head over to hermione's, and then from there, they had no obligations. harry decided that then would be a good time to visit godric's hollow. after that, they would have to start trying to find the horcruxes. harry had no idea how he would accomplish this, so he decided not to worry about it just yet.
ron apparently felt the same about malfoy as harry did. "harry, do you think we should get going soon? i mean, i think we've been here long enough. its almost september. usually we would be leaving by now."
"i reckon you're right, mate," said harry. "we'll definately be leaving soon. we'll be gone by the time ginny goes to school." it was strange to think that hogwarts still even existed. how could there be a hogwarts without dunbledore? and it seemed even more distant since he, ron, and hermione had never graduated. hermione, he knew, was hurting over this. he thought about all his fellow seventh years, starting their final year at hogwarts, working their butts off over the N.E.W.T.s. they must have recived their letters by now, just as he, ron and hermione had, although they probably hadn't sent them back to the school as the trio had, with heavy hearts. harry realized that he may never see any of them again. he certainly wouldn't be able to get a decent job with only six years of school completed. maybe, once the war was over, the trio could go back and do their seventh year. who knew, maybe he would even be in ginny's year...
but how akward would that be? having classmates who you barely knew (except for ginny and luna), never feeling quite right, because you're a year older than everyone around you? no, that would not do. maybe the three of them could take their seventh year outside school. like summer coarses. that could work...
but there was no time to worry about that now. harry reminded himself. harry had four horcruxis to find and destroy, and then an evil wizard with a seventh of a soul to murder. whcih meant that he had to get going, and soon. he looked at ron and hermione, who had both fallen silent at the word, "school." they were obviously thinking the same thing harry was, since they snapped out of their reveries and looked back at harry.
"hogwarts starts next week, mate. maybe we should go by the end of this week, then," ron suggested.
"that sounds good to me," replied harry. "how about we leave on friday?"
"alright. that's fine," ron said.
"then its settled," stated hermione. "we leave for grimmauld place on friday, and from there, we go to my house."
"and then godric's hollow?" quiried ron, looking at harry.
"yea," replied harry. "that seems about right. come on, let's go tell your mum, then. and malfoy, i suppose." the trio headed into the kitchen, where mr. and mrs. weasley, draco, and ginny where already seated, and told them the news. no one said anything, although mrs. weasley looked a bit teary-eyed. they all ate in silence. after the had finished, mrs. weasley said, "well then. if you four are leaving on friday, you'd best start getting ready.go on, off you go then." so the trio and draco headed to their rooms and began packing for the journey, knowing that they would not be back at the burrow for a very long time.
the week passed quickly, and soon, friday had arrived. harry, ron, hermione, and draco were packed and ready to go. all that was left was to say goodbye. however, this proved to be a hard task. mrs. weasley was openly sobbing as she hugged the trio. "be careful, all of you. i want to see all of you again, and soon," she sobbed. even mr. weasley gave them hugs. "be good. and don't do anything stupid," he advised sternly. finally, it was ginny's turn. she gave everyone hugs and a peck of the cheek, and whisphered in ahrry's ear, "please come back. i need you." harry squeezed her in another hug, and then the four teens stepped into the fire one at a time, shouting, "number 12, grimmauld place."
harry was the last to step out of the fireplace. as he did, he noticed draco looking around in dissatisfaction. "potty, your place here reminds me of the malfoy manor's basement. its a horrible-looking place, this. i would have thought that the headquarters of the order of the pheonix would be a bit less, well, evil-looking."
"did you, now?" harry replied sourly. "well, nobody asked you what you thought my house would look like, now did they?" harry was suddenly in a horrible mood, and would not have malfoy criticizing sirius' house, no matter how gloomy it was. "now come on, i'll show you your room." harry led draco to kreacher's old room and practically shoved him in, before slamming the door with a curt, "i hope you find it satisfactory, not that it makes a difference"
harry turned to ron and hermione, furious. "how dare he? how dare he criticize sirius' house like that? i hate that slimy bastard. I HATE HIM!"
"harry, calm down," moaned hermione, grabbing his arm. "before you-"
it was too late. they could hear mrs. black's shreiks already. "BLOOD-TRAITORS AND MUDBLOODS, HOW DARE YOU ENTER MY HOME? HOW DARE YOU BESMIRCH THE ANCIENT HOUSE OF BLACK WITH YOUR UNWANTED PRESENCE? KREACHER? KREACHER!!!"
harry walked up to the portrait furiously. "THERE IS NO KREACHER HERE! KREACHER BELONGS TO ME NOW, AS DOES THIS HOUSE. THIS IS NO LONGER THE ANCIENT HOME OF BLACK! IT IS THE HOME OF SIRIUS! SIRIUS, WHO WAS NEVER A BLACK! NEVER! YOU HEAR ME?"
mrs. black had stopped yelling, and was now staring at harry in horror. "w-what? no. it cannot be! it CANNOT! I WILL NOT BELIVE IT!"
"you don't have to," said harry coldly. "the last of the black line has fallen, thanks to your own neice. and now, this is the new house of potter. like it or not, the blacks are gone."
"NO! YOU LIE! I WON'T BELIEVE YOU! I - "
with that, harry raored angrily, and wrenched the curtains shut. mrs. black's screeches died down, and now, there was only silence.
"harry?" hermione started tentatively.
"i'm fine hermione," harry said, breathing hard. "i'm fine," he repeated, and stalked off into his room, slamming the door behind him.
