NO WAY. Wow! I've got a feral outside who would LOVE (okay, so maybe not) this deal. I've been trying to think for ages how to do it since our vet usually charges around $300 (boo, hiss) and the guy who does TNR in our area hasn't been sent more vouchers yet.
Is this local to just your shop? Or are they doing this nationally?
It's local just to me. KittiCo is a local Cat Rescue and they are the ones putting it on. They have FANTASTIC programs! You might want to check with your area cat rescues to see if your area has any low cost spay/neuter programs. We've only just begun to get funding and grants in our area the last 4-5 years. One of the things our new Animal Control director wants to do is to ask for more money to continue those grants to rescues who want to host them. Different cities have different programs, so if your TNR guy is on vouchers, that may be how your area does it. But call around to every rescue you can to see if they know of any programs. If anybody knows, they will.
Admittedly, last year in October our local Humane Society did spay/neuters for $30. That's how we got our youngest catchild spayed. Definitely not as comfy cozy as our regular vet (she was terrified, and could smell and sense the other unhappy animals all around) but it was a bargain...
Yeah, you absolutely get what you pay for when it comes to spay/neuters. Cheap costs mean assembly line surgeries. It's just not the same, but it's definately welcome when the regular cost is out of reach. And it is out of reach for most people.

Hell, $55 is a great deal either way.
