Winter Smackdown

I... hate... snow.... This morning's commute was dreadful. The bus that was supposed to be running wasn't- people from the previous run half an hour before were still waiting- so after another ten minutes or so of waiting, I joined a trek of people hiking down to another street, all making an Arctic slog through the drifts, to get to another bus ( Read more... )

I'd stay home, but that's me. The no pay is the tough thing. But is it worth risking your neck getting there? Whatever you do, be safe! Sorry you had such a day! *hugs*

Thanks. **hug back** I was able to get in and out okay today, but we're getting more snow this very minute, so I've got no idea how things will stand tomorrow. I'd feel guilty about not being there, but if it looks really bad, or if I go to a bus stop and wait and wait and nothing shows, I may just stay home. I just can't take another commute like I had yesterday, even if I do feel guilty for not going in- which I will.

Ugh, that sounds terrible.
Jess and I avoided the issue yesterday by working from home. (And then going out to bail out the snow around our cars with buckets since we haven't been able to buy a shovel yet) But we came in to work today, and good lord the roads were terrible. I should've followed your lead and walked! It would've been faster...

I would be the sort to go into work regardless, but I'm an idiot. (As in pay wouldn't be my motivation, I feel awful when I miss work.) I'm the kind of moron that walked to school on an ankle I couldn't walk on once.
The loss of pay is the kicker, but I agree that you probably shouldn't risk your life on it. It's a tough decision. Maybe see how the roads look tomorrow?

Ack, you guys got slammed too? Ouch. I was able to make it in today reasonably, which was good. I decided to try it, and it wasn't too bad, in or out. But it's snowing more even now, as I type this. So I've got no clue how the roads will be come morning. I've also been left to my own discretion- which is tough because I, like you, will feel terribly guilty if I miss without it be absolutely necessary. If I decide it looks bad and I stay home, but then hear it was okay, I'll feel awful. So I feel like I have to do everything in my power to get there. But I don't want to deal with another commute like I had yesterday. It was just too much, you know? So right now, I play "we'll see." And we'll do just that- see what things are like when I get up tomorrow morning.
