1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I dramatically reduced my social circle in a blaze of righteous anger and moved to another state to try living in rural America. These things were not related.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Like hell I made any. How about "not going to die yet?"
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! Rachael, one of my best friends had her lovely little Moira.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, for once.
5. What countries did you visit?
Not a one. Nay nay nay.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A house and a car. These are both possible!
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
That Sunday before Easter. That was a bad bad day.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Shifting myself across country for the first time ever.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not kicking somebody to the curb before petty bigotry ruined more friendships than were really necessary.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just the usual heart break and bronchial infection.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets away from San Diego. It was a slow year for consumerism.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Hell, lots of peoples. Mike and Marjy got a house. Ross and Mel are consistently awesome. Christie struggled valiantly against various injustices. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody being cool at the moment.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Mike Schmidt, who turned so far to the Right that he can't make left turns anymore. The guy calls himself a "culture warrior" these days because of lock stepping with O'Reilly and Fox Republicanism.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Moving.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving. ;)
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I'm not really into that sort of thing...
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier, because I know that the friends I have left actually matter and are just.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, but I'm working on new plans to change all that.
c) richer or poorer? Much poorer. Oh, yes.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Social and environmental volunteering.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Suffering assholes in silence for the illusion of friendship.
20. How will you be spending/did you spend Christmas?
With my host family, which was warm and enjoyable, though San Diego was always in my mind.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Always at least a little.
22. How many one-night stands?
One wasn't supposed to be a one night stand, but it ended after a week so I guess it sort of counts.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Fringe is the big surprise, but Doctor Who was the classic standby. And shame on you, Beth. Never abbreviate the Doctor. ;)
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yes. And since this isn't WH40K and hate doesn't lead to victory it came with the appropriate leading to suffering.
25. What was the best book you read?
I wrapped up the Dark Tower series... except for the Coda. I think I'm the only one who got to the end of that book and said "Okay, Steve. I'll stop here."
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Lamb, I think.
At least the video for B-Line blew my mind. There were a couple of others, but they are on DVD and I don't recall the names right now.
27. What did you want and get?
To keep my friends. I got most of the good ones. The military would call that sort of thing a win.
28. What did you want and not get?
Peace.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Inglourious Basterds is right up there. I didn't see much new, though.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had cake. I turned 33.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not having people turn against the civil rights of my father for nebulous party line bullshit.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Personal what now?
33. What kept you sane?
Legally prescribed medication. Wait... I don't have a health plan. Good friends then.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hrm. I really don't think that I have one of those.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop 8. Vile and senseless Prop 8.
36. Who did you miss?
The Friday night SciFi crew. Which is practically everybody on this list, core and supporting cast.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
My new geek buddy Julian, probably.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Sometimes you have to forgive somebody who did you wrong. It doesn't mean that you have to deal with them in your life.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
No. ;)
