Christmas carols can be so...creepy

Have you ever really paid attention to what you are singing?

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.

~We Three Kings~

Yeah!  Let's bring presents to the baby!  Gold, frankinsence, and burial perfumes!!!  :-P

I noticed that this year... I guess they only brought it because its so rare? (Myrrh essential oil is almost $30 for a tiny little bottle!)

Or maybe it was an omen to his death. Frankinsense is a purifying oil and myrrh is a burial oil. The gold is... um... well its gold, so its cool anyways ;)

Apparently they were all symbolic gifts for the day. Gold is what you give a kind, Frankinsence was something used in temples in ceremonies, etc so it is associated with God, and see above about Myhrr.
It all makes sense, but still is disturbing.

"Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign.

Frankincense to offer have I;
Incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising, voices raising,
Worshipping God on high."
